@sarahestelle Got your message, and something may be going with your car that needs dealer attention. When you disconnected the 12v battery, did you leave it disconnected for at least 20 minutes? if you did, and are still having the spinning pinwheel issue, then a dealer visit may be warranted.
Screenshot below is the OTA dashboard on your car. You show multilple failed attempts for an ABS update and you currently have a GWM in your queue wanting to install that will expire and fail in about 2 weeks. Your car is not pinging the server back to accept the updates.
While I was in there, I checked to see if it is reporting any codes and this stood out:
The IPMA code citing "control message authentication" indicates there that the TRON enctryption is possibly broken on your car. The modem is also part of the TRON network, so if TRON is broken, it would explain why your modem has limitied connectivity. Below is the SSM referenced by the code:
Fixing TRON is something the dealer can easily do. The more difficult part will be getting them to listen. However, the spinning pinwheel, not being able to turn updates on and the history of failed OTA updates should be enough to get them to take a look at the car.
