@sarahestelle Got your message, and something may be going with your car that needs dealer attention. When you disconnected the 12v battery, did you leave it disconnected for at least 20 minutes? if you did, and are still having the spinning pinwheel issue, then a dealer visit may be warranted.

Screenshot below is the OTA dashboard on your car. You show multilple failed attempts for an ABS update and you currently have a GWM in your queue wanting to install that will expire and fail in about 2 weeks. Your car is not pinging the server back to accept the updates.

S650 Mustang Software updates, automatic 1774124725001-o1

While I was in there, I checked to see if it is reporting any codes and this stood out:

S650 Mustang Software updates, automatic 1774124778024-ao

The IPMA code citing "control message authentication" indicates there that the TRON enctryption is possibly broken on your car. The modem is also part of the TRON network, so if TRON is broken, it would explain why your modem has limitied connectivity. Below is the SSM referenced by the code:

Fixing TRON is something the dealer can easily do. The more difficult part will be getting them to listen. However, the spinning pinwheel, not being able to turn updates on and the history of failed OTA updates should be enough to get them to take a look at the car.

Thank you, so much for checking on this. That’s an awful lot going on, and I would never have known how to look for it or what to look for. So glad you saw my post! I did leave the battery disconnected a bit over 20 minutes. Worked last time. Next stop…the dealership. My favorite place to go lol. I need an oil change and have one more free, and I need to get that recall fixed, so I’ll get up there. Of course, they’ll want to keep him for days. I’m sure it doesn’t take that long. Last time, they wanted to rotate the tires. I pointed out they’re offset. The service guy acted like I didn’t know what I was talking about. I felt like asking him if I was really at the Ford dealer. I may be female, but I do know a few things lol. Shady or uninformed? Things were so much easier in the 70s. I was wondering when I can stop using the dealership and use my trusted mechanic without messing up the warranty. I know he can’t fix these software issues, but he’s the only one I trust completely to take care of maintenance. He's also the only other person I’ve ever let drive my car. I’m funny like that. Thank you again! You have been a huge help!

Many independent shops have FDRS. If he does, he can run the TRON procedure in minutes. That's if it's needed. The code was random and not persistent.

If the battery pull worked last time, I would do it again. The update could possibly address the issue of the spinning wheel. The update you have pending is for the GWM and that module getting hung up is what is causing that particular issue of the spinning pinwheel and not being able to turn on updates.

Does that mean I have to get rid of my Galaxy Flip to get updates?
My comment was based on the OPs apparent lack of knowledge of using basic technology. Im still not sure if he or she didn't know they had to scroll right to find the updates menu, or if they where having a legitimate problem receiving the update. This thread seems to have been hijacked by other users issues.

Just FYI: Parking Brake does not need to be applied/on. Mine updated this past week and parking break was not on.

Most of the time the updates are interrupted due to a low battery condition.

Again, im not even sure who im replying to as this thread is all over the place. 🙄
