Boomer, as in baby boomer. It's an American slang term. -

"In modern internet slang, "boomer" refers to someone, usually older, who is seen as out of touch, resistant to change, and often characterized by close-minded opinions. It's an ironic term, not necessarily targeting baby boomers as a whole, but rather a specific set of attitudes and behaviors. The phrase "OK boomer" is often used to dismiss or reject the older person's statement."
Yeah, got that. Same down here, it's Millies and Zoomies envious BS because we own all the houses and great cars. We also know what women are.
I was wondering what a boomer driver was.

I resemble that. Adaptive cruise is like all technology. The basic skill is easy to learn, but the optimum performance is gained by trial and error. That includes learning the limitations of the tech in its interaction with the average driver.

And the problem with that is? You are probably still travelling at the same speed so no net loss.
Because the cruise control will slow down to maintain the distance and a bunch of vehicles will just keep butting in until you are several cars back. Computers are not allowed to say screw the rules and ride less than a car length behind at 70mph.

Yeah, I'm jealous, not even going to hide it.

Gonna be awhile before I own my own home

We’re in here arguing meanwhile autonomous network fleets are beginning rollouts this year in several cities

enjoy the fact we still get the privilege to drive, if you have a baby today, they likely never will…

Several cars back but still going at the same speed. Losing a few car lengths makes ZERO difference to your overall journey time.

There are reasons ACC doesn't ride less than a car length at 70mph - never mind the safety implications of being too close to the car in front, short distances between vehicles increase the likelihood of reactive braking to a more severe level which is the prime cause of 'phantom' traffic jams. You are too close, you have to brake suddenly in reaction to a small speed change from the car in front, the car following you has to react even more until eventually about 30 cars back somebody has to stop. Increasing the distance means you only need to ease off not brake and so the car behind doesn't brake and the car 30 behind never stops.

Variable speed limits work in a similar way and there is loads of research to prove their effectiveness too.

Going slower in the passing lane whether it's because of adaptive cruise control or boomer brain is what creates traffic jams and collisions. Maybe if you aren't passing anyone and people are going around you on the right, get in the slow lane.

while I don’t disagree that going slow in the passing lane negatively effects traffic,
the assumption is that you are paying attention, and are getting over for faster traffic.

Adaptive cruise is nice because I don’t have to disable and reset when I come up on a slow vehicle and can’t pass yet. It also does not fight you if you step on the accelerator. Your number turns grey as it temporarily shuts off and comes back on when you let off the pedal.

I think its great too but you can clearly tell when someone is lolly gagging with it in the passing lane. Usually a tesla or prius.

The other day I was going over a bridge and 5 different cars passed a dumb ass old guy in a Tesla, when I go around him he floors it trying to crash me. Then he goes 10 miles under the speed limit next to another car. Then when the other car turns off and I go to go around him he swerves at me again like he's going to ram me off the road. I bet that dumb boomer had a heart attack later that day.

Agree the 'middle lane hoggers' can slow traffic down but ACC wouldn't slow anybody down in this situation as there would be nobody in front to make it slow the middle lane down.

It is a speed LIMIT not a mandatory minimum! Getting wound up by other drivers achieves nothing. Live and let live.

You can get fined on highways (a ticket) in Europe (Italy for sure) for being in a left hand lane if you aren't passing anyone. They really need to implement that in the USA.
