I don't know whether to be offended or whack you on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.
My experience in driver testing was that the over 70's had better pass rates on their elderly driver tests than the new drivers.
The real problem with the elderly is cognitive decline. Ours have to be medically examined before they can renew their licences.

Around here the boomers are just getting too old. A lot of them couldn’t drive to begin with and now you add diminished skills on top of that.
If you actually look and read about most of the wrecks around here they involve 60-80 year olds. Nationally their insurance is going up at 72 or 75+ because of the alarming rates they are wrecking.
It’s funny they cry about young kids with their cell phones but they are the ones driving with dogs sitting on their laps and hanging out their drivers side windows all the time.

I follow you on several forums and mostly think like you about things automotive. But I disagree here. At least in my case. I am 73 and have raced cars and bikes for more than 55 years. I still autocross and drag race and ride motorcycles. Maybe my reaction time is not quite what it was as 20, but I would factor in experience and judgement to overcome that shortfall. I guarantee you I am safer to ride with or drive around than the majority of other drivers, especially the young and distracted ones.

I live in a college town, so I get the worse of both worlds. The retirees and the kids just out of high school and on their own for the first time. I think there is a need for required renewal training and maybe medical checks every so many years. Each generation has to learn different safety rules to deal with age related foibles. Unfortunately the worse problems are usually those who are forbidden to drive, but do anyway. And millions of people need to get places and no safe way to get there.

As I said most of the wrecks around here involve a boomer almost every time.

Here in NC it's the worst. I expect rounding every corner that someone is going to be crossing the yellow line into my lane. No, I'm not paranoid, this happens at least twice a week, every week. One time it happened 3 times in a single day. Texting and driving is an absolute nightmare in this state.

That being said, I'm a defensive driver in every sense. I trust absolutely no one. My wife got sideswiped a year or so ago by some late teen merging onto the highway across both lanes and right into the side of her Mercedes. When I'm in my truck my feelings are pretty much "let em hit me, law of gross tonnage will win" but in the hamster-stang, not so much.

I was driver testing when NZ had the mass influx of Chinese immigrants in the late 90's.
Now I don't have a problem with Chinese people, I've had two Chinese gilfriends and a couple of Chinese mates, I quite like them, but they are the most horrific drivers.
One example, the woman who slammed on the brakes because a small bird flew across the front of her car.

This doesn't rule out that somebody doesn't have a problem with Chinese or any other nationality.

I have many real life examples, where people have problems with a group of people, but when it comes to girls or some friends, they don't have the "issue".
