If the resonators are removed and an H pipe installed, would it sound better? What about drone?

The whole point of a resonator is to counter resonance that causes drone.

some people have custom fabbed H pipes with resonators though.
It’s likely heavier than the stock 1 at that point

resonator deletes are one of the most popular mods for mustangs, and it will sound louder, there will be more audible pops, and it almost never causes drone unless you are also running what is basically a straight pipe axleback too. don't do that, though. go for something that has an actual tone to it instead of just LOUD. you will also shed around about 10-15lbs by doing a resonator delete, the S550 resonator was nicknamed "the suitcase" because of it's shape and weight.

I prefer the X-Pipe but to each his own. There’s tons of videos of S550’s having them done with sound tests. Go have a listen

I have a Flowmaster American Thunder cat back on my F-150 and dual Flowmaster 40 series mufflers on the F100. No resonator on either. Does it drone? Yes. Does my wife hate it? Sometimes. Do I hate it? Nope! I love the sound of chambered mufflers even if it isn't as free flowing as a glass pack muffler. I agree with the above to put something on the car to tune the exhaust note. The Coyote is pretty raspy already and downright ear shattering with straight pipes and headers. A good tuned axle back should put the sound in the sweet spot.

I wonder if the Borla Switchfire will fit this thing.

Where the x and or h is placed can also play a role. Simply removing the resonator will change the sound. The cutaway I saw for a prior version of the resonator basically showed straight pipes going through the resonator (with holes in various locations - but the pipes do not meet or cross nor does one side dead end and the other side pick it up). Under wot more or less straight through.

My car has no resonators from the factory- and on my last PP1 car I took them off....

This should be your first mod- my PP1 with active exhaust and no resonators with stock mufflers was glorious.....

Removing the resonator and replacing it with an X or H pipe will sound great. The factory resonators dampen the sound quit a bit. As far as drone goes I wouldn't expect any from the resonator delete by itself. Only when you start adding headers and catback/axlebacks into the mix will that have the potential to cause drone depending on the setup.

Here's a link to the resonator deletes we offer for the S650.

Thank you for your business! We really appreciate it. Please make sure to do a product review of the X pipe once you install it on your car. Thanks again!!

I'm interested in the Corsa double H pipe but it is pretty expensive. Is there a significant difference in tone compared to a single H pipe? I haven't really been able to find any comparison videos between a single H and double H on the same Mustang.

Hey there.

I've had both a traditional H midpipe and Corsa HH midpipe - there's a difference and it is noticeable, but it's not as drastic as when you go from stock to either of the midpipes. I enjoyed the Corsa HH most when it came to headers and high-flow cats.

Let us know if we can help out with either midpipe option!

You guys show the Borla Switchfire for the 2024. I figured this wouldn't change. Was this confirmed by Borla?
