All I can say is that I've never looked at my mother that way. But I have looked at other peoples mothers that way.
Do I qualify as a MF'er still?

I'm normally quite respectful, but this is one situation where I'll just say this.. The only stupid idea was your conception.
Lol....

So as far as Mustang variants go, as a non-purist is this how purists view the following variants:

Mach E-WWW!!!
Mach 4-ced to be a Mustang, THAT'S NOT A MUSTANG!
Baja-HAHAHA NO!!!

Sorry, just bored at the moment, I can't always make winners of posts. šŸ˜•

Guys can we just chill please?

I'll say I'm not opposed to the mustang sub-brand idea. I think there are a lot of cool possibilities with it. But I struggle with the idea of an off-road mustang.

Doing a mustang sedan, even if some people don't like it. Makes a lot of sense just like offering a 4 door wrangler or bronco does, even if purists dislike it. That's where the volume is.

Furthermore, I've said before that doing other mustang variants like a mid-engine mustang cobra, or a super affordable smaller coupe/hatch using the fathom platform to appeal to young buyers are both fun ideas.

But a off-road mustang just doesn't do it for me. Just make a new RS 200 for like the price of a lotus or c8 with several variants. That's cooler imo and ties into Ford's heritage more authentically.

You just proved our point, apply that same logic to that RS as you would for a Mustang. I agree the RS makes more sense for an off road car, like a Falcon would for a sedan since they were known for those things.

You always make weird comparisons, trying to stretch it to fit instead of making a more logical one.

What I don't think you and a lot of other enthusiasts understand is consumer behavior. You guys seem to think we live decades in the past where new names and ideas thrived more. That's unfortunately not the case these days.

These days, at least with how consumers currently are, they care more about brand name, familiarity, going with something that's already established. A known quantity.

I mean fuck, look at the entertainment industry. We're finally getting some creative stuff again, especially when it comes to things like horror movies. But for decades, it felt like everything was a sequel or a remake, repurposing an already successful creation.

It's the same with the auto industry. Look at the. Mustang sedan. It might not make purists happy, but it makes a lot of sense. You call it the mustang, you appeal to people who want that name, that heritage, that look, even if it's not identical to the coupe. Calling it mustang gives it instant credibility within the performance car world.

Calling it the Ford fusillade or some shit and no-one is gonna care about it. Even something like the crown vic, it's not really gonna move the needle.

If buyers start valuing new nameplates instead of seeing the same names over and over again, that's when brands will start to focus more on offering them. But for now, it's all about building on an already established brand for better or worse.

My brother I work in the field, marketing specifically. I also have seen your takes across other platforms, some great but some are just you blindly agreeing with decisions without actually understanding things.

With that being said that’s why I don’t call you or others names like that for disagreeing (like others do a page back) because it’s not that serious to insult people over things like this.

but you keep saying things then contradict it. For example, from what you said, a RS seems more appropriate, but with the logic you state, Mustang is a better name because it’s about performance.

I'll be clear, I'm one of the few that unironically likes/loves the idea of a Mustang sedan. At this point I'd even be fine with getting one with an Ecoboost setup (V8 power seems like it'll only be attainable for me come post-retirement), ideally with AWD but I'd be fine with a more traditional RWD drivetrain as well.

That all said, I really hope "Mach-4" isn't going to be the final name for it. It's just as bland (if not more so) as "Mach-E". While not necessarily a complete deal breaker for me, there are nameplates old and new that would better compliment the name of a Mustang sedan (if they insist on using the Mustang ____ naming convention for the final product).

I see where you're coming from, and why people don't want to see Ford slap the mustang name onto everything and dilute it. I personally believe there can be a balance with a mustang sub-brand where Ford offers multiple car variants. But is more cautious about it.

I like the mach-e, but I think it was a step too far. Same goes for the off-road mustang because an offroader just isn't something I associate with the mustang image. That being said, a sedan, or a smaller, more affordable coupe to appeal to younger buyers, or a mid-engine mustang c8 rivals.

Those are the sorts of things where I think using the mustang name could work, and could actually make people see the mustang in a more exciting manner. It's a balance.

Where the industry is now. We might not agree with a lot of it, but we should also realize there's a reason we got here. There's a reason why brands keep using established names instead of new ones. Or why all the cars on the road are white, black, or gray. Or why manuals are slowly dying out.

It's because when brands try these things. Try giving a product a brand new name, or vibrant colors, or offer a stick shift. It doesn't work out well for them. So they fear taking those sorts of chances and retreat back to what's proven to sell and work for them.

Agreed. I like the Galaxie name. I would like to see that name return for a sporty sedan of some sort. I don't think mustang Galaxie would work through šŸ˜†. Maybe just calling it mustang saloon or something.

Where the industry is now in the Mustang price range, manufacturers are killing off coupes for the sedan counterparts.

If anything Ford proved that they always find a way of making something that takes notice, the Maverick is a great example of that. Fathom should prove that as well.

All I’m gonna say is that I’ve been on the other end of looking at Ford launches. Where something like the SRT4s never really did anything, the Focus RS reaction literally boosted the hot hatch/commuter car segment. Even forced other companies to come back to the segment in certain markets.
