A: What sub did you end up installing?
B: Were other subs tried/tested?
C: Did you get the expected/demanded improvement from what you installed?
D: Would you do this effort again?
E: What would you do differently?
F: Best suggestions for anyone thinking about doing this?
G: Please fill in anything I may have missed.

  1. Pioneer TS-A250D4
  2. No other subs were tried.
  3. It's much better, but could still use more bass IMO. Probably not going to happen without major audio system overhaul though.
  4. Yes, it's not that much effort aside from enlarging the mounting holes in the speaker itself.
  5. Nothing really
  6. Follow the instructions in the subwoofer upgrade threads here on the forum.
  7. The wiring pigtails will make life a lot easier. Not sure the polyfill is entirely necessary.

I am frustrated and pissed, so I ordered a Pioneer S-A250D4 to finalize this effort. Delivery to me on Friday, 1 August. I prewired it is ready for the 20 minutes it will take to mount it in the enclosure. Done.

Thanks for the sub referral.

I second everything Yamazuki said.

You’ll be happy with the sub, and as I think I said earlier, don’t expect the sub itself to amaze you, but listen closely and you’ll notice all your other speakers now sound better with more thump from the door woofers.

All you have left to decide is to modify the new sub bracket to fit the stock holes, or what I did was just rotate the sub 1/2” and just drill into new holes on the sub box. I covered with a $12 4 bar grill and it also now looks cooler too.

Stock grill cover will fit if you modify the Pioneer bracket holes to fit the stock sub enclosure. That will take a little extra time with a drill or Dremel tool.

Just rotating the speaker saves about an hour and you can use the Pioneer trim ring. But if doing that stock grill won’t work.

Plenty of threads here on what people did. A super long one on the S550 forum. A thread search will show them all.

So exhausting to see that every other day some person thinks it is necessary to open their own thread on the very same topic.
Not even too lazy to search, but obviously even to read, as that topic has a hundred threads on the first few pages of the forum./
Sort of like some person thinks it is necessary to open their own thread on the same subject. Just like what you complained about now isn't it?
