I’m debating PPF pros and cons. Leaning towards not doing it. What say you? Did you PPF? Why?

I've never done it on a car but am considering doing it on the front end, over black painted areas, the rear trunk panel, and possibly the fenders. I'm mostly just so over dealing with rock chips and the trunk panel getting so filthy for whatever reason. Ideally I'd do the whole car if it wasn't so expensive. They say white is easy to keep clean, and from afar, it is, but once you start washing and detailing it you start seeing all the contaminants and stuff embedding into the car.

I was also curious about this, but with colored PPF in particular (didn't think it was a thing until I learned about this).

I had a quarter of the front clip done since it's the most likely surface to be pitted and chipped from rocks. Gives me peace of mind. I plan to keep this car a long time.

Contemplated PPF on my Gt. Got concerned about the edges of the film collecting dirt. It’s a daily driver so nicks will happen. Don’t want to get too worked up about it, so I didn’t pursue further.

On light colored paint it's a real concern (for me too) and Grabber Blue is on the lighter side.

It's worth it if you got the money. The paint is thin I'm always finding new rock chips :(

The cons seem to outweigh the pros though, at least for me, and that is the problem. Still undecided though.

Full front end PPF would cost $2,200 Canadian. I could use that money for so much more things like a tuner when it gets released etc.

Saying that i highly recommend
If not ppfing, im probably going to use this for chip repairs. Save alot of money, most highly recommened online and used them for my WRX. https://drcolorchip.com/

I pass on it for daily drivers but put full PPF on the exotic toys we have that are not used regularly. My answer will ultimately depend on how you want to use the car.

Would certainly recommend PPF for the front clip if you are concerned about it on a daily driver but it doesn't prevent chips from happening. I daily drive my mustang and go naked. I'll use a touch up pen to fix chips.

I personally pass on PPF for daily drivers since it is expensive, certainly helps prevent chips but they still happen, some PPF fade over time and look ugly, and you have to replace them every so often. I've had rocks hit the front of the PPF and it saves a chip from happening but then the PPF tore and looked way worst than a small chip would have been. To me it is not worth it for a daily driver but for a weekend toy it is.

Would a paint pen be better for dealing with chips then?

With my 2019 I was tired of seeing all the little chips and pits in the paint of the front end. So with my 2024 I had it PPF'd. I have one spot I can see on the leading edge of the hood that would have been chipped but for the PPF.

All my cars get xpel PP. I did just the front clip and 15 inches on the roof just above the windshield because the roof line angle. My 2011 had it on since new with no chips and that saying something as they use granite rock to cover area on the sides of xpressways which find its way onto the roads. The windshields take a beating. I did have the 2011 redone with more improved PPF. Taking off the old was a challenge.
