I spent several hours last weekend going over the car with Meguiars Ultimate Compound (by hand) and a clay bar. I have Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and their carnuba wax, but wasn't sure if I need to polish the paint before applying the wax. I'll have to wash it again before waxing it as it's my wife's daily driver. What are everyone's thoughts on the need to polish if I've already done the 1st 2 steps?

I would only polish if swirls are present or if a more desired reflective apearance is wanted. Polishing always takes some paint material when done. Already using clay and compound will allow the wax to bond better to the paint.

I used to do all kind of 3 stage BS. Now it's clay mitt, and use a mild cleaner sealer, with or without a machine, and done. All that baloney about Carnauba is overrated. Believe me, doing a clay mitt is a job enough.
