There is one facet about Mustangs which defy the norm, and that is a preference for darker colors. Over the whole automobile industry, White at 25% is the most popular, with Black at 22% a close second. These are followed by Gray at 18% and Silver at 10%, and typically in shades towards the lighter hues. Mustang owners so it seems, go for darker, almost sinister hues.

From a personal (and different) point of view, window tints follow the aforementioned preferences. This apparent fact also plays out in dark license plate covers. It is as if Mustang owners are trying to hide from law enforcement!

What's odd about this information, is the percentage of Mustang owners who have had at least one traffic citation; they're barely in the top 25 nationally. Dodges, Subarus, Nissans, and luxury SUVs hold the top spots. Sure makes me wonder!

There are many people who stick to safer colors just for better resale value. Sad to see this, but unfortunately we have a lot of people who want something, but don't drive it, just to have a better resale value.

I think its an American Muscle/Sports car thing. Would love to see the color breakdown for the Corvettes. Actually...what would really be fun is the breakdown of the Challenger when it was around with all the wacky MOPAR colors.

Automakers upcharge for colors other than the ones mentioned in your first paragraph because they cost more to paint and the paint costs more. That is also why dealer stock cars are in these colors. As you drive around, notice what colors you see the most. White, for example, used to be an uncommon color, now it is one of the most common. Same with black. Automakers are also now being paid by consumers to do paint color change-overs which is just another cost to them.

The C8 color stats are available up to 2024. I think it was black, red, white. Top three colors. I’ll see if I can find it for you.

Wow...still got white and black in the top 3. I don't think I've seen a white one. Lots of red and blue though.

I chose the color I did because this is a fast and audibly loud car, the last thing I wanted to do was get one that was visually loud.

I don't want to give the road kings a reason to pay more attention to me when I'm very obviously going exactly the speed limit.

I would never have selected white planning my decision ahead of time, but I found a screaming deal on a white GT PP with blue Brembos ($41k), and I realized that some matching blue racing stripes and a few carbon fiber add ons with blue pinstripes would turn it from bland white to a distinctive heritage racing white.

So I'd say that with something like a Mustang, where aftermarket stripes and other graphics are comparatively common, the base color isn't necessarily the end of the story. And it may even be that white is one of the most common colors to dress up with graphics...

Agree. I had a similar experience with my S550. I wasn't looking for a white car, but found a good deal on a used one. Ended up putting silver stripes on it and a black spoiler.

Some cars need to be a vivid colour to stand out, the Mustang doesn't. In fact as a daily driver a little bit of subtlety goes a long way.

Have an '18 GT Royal Crimson, a '24 RTR Rapid Red, and had a '21 CS Velocity Blue. The Rapid Red looks good even though it's kind of clichéd. The Velocity Blue was awesome, but the Royal Crimson is my favorite. In 7 years, I have never seen another of that color. Would like to see Ford bring it back. Their color choices seem limited. I would like to obtain a '25 or '26, but nothing really pops out.

I keep some simple statistics as part of an Mach 1 registry. While mild-to-wild colors were available from 21-23, the following are the combined percentages of black, grey and silver cars:

2021: 71 of 100%. Five other colors covered the remaining 29%.
2022: 52%. Six other colors were 48% of the total MY color takes.
2023: 63%. Five other colors were 37%.

White currently represents 8% of all cars in the registry.

This mirrors the experience in my location. It's nothing but white, silver, grey and black. Virtually all vehicles. The last year or two, those have been met by more mud-colored (sand to brown) and dark green hues.

I'm glad we've had a selection that involves something other than the four mentioned. And other manufacturers typically have some unique colors that also show nice. What does suck is when one of those colors is only available with a higher-end package to help upsell for exclusivity. I don't mind paying for the color. I'd just like access to it without buying a trim or package level I can do without.

Yeah! You are onto something about citations. I almost had my license suspended because of points accumulation when I owned my Z! It was silver, by the way! Glenn
