You would get there in the same amount of time because hybrids don't need to be charged. Hence "hybrid." If the battery isn't charged, you will simply use the ICE. This is for all hybrids, too. You're thinking of a pure EV vehicle which would require stops for charging. I don't see a full scale conversion to that until our infrastructure supports it which Mr. Fields touched upon slightly.

When I worked at a high end hotel 5 years ago, we purchased a hybrid MKZ for our shuttle vehicle. I got the chance to drive it a few times, never having driven a hybrid before. What a strange sensation. 0-20 was like a catapult.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this hybrid. The Corvette community has been speculating about this for years with a lot of "old timers" still griping about the loss of carburetors and the possible loss of push-rod engines. So much negativity surrounded the release of the ecoboost in the Mustang for '15, but it has been wildly successful. They produced a slightly more economical vehicle at a lower price than the GT that allows a great demographic of people to enjoy the Mustang.

I love the sound of my GT. I contemplated an ecoboost when I sold my '14 GT because I was never truly utilizing the full potential of the car, but the sound alone kept me in the 5.0. However, if I had to choose between a high powered hybrid or $5-6+ a gallon on a car that averages 19 MPG, I'd probably jump all over that hybrid. I'm a millennial, though...whatever that means.
my bad...
in my mind hybrid = electric.
totally forgot there is still both in hybrids...
so i kinda agree with you in some areas. i think there are positives and negatives to both cases.
who knows...one day we might have flying cars! it happened in back to the future! lol

I remember reading a TIME for kids article in grade school about flying cars becoming available by 2005. This was in the early '90s. I feel slighted.

Man you guys are relentless, when i get to your age i hope I'm not as crotchety blaming everyone else for what i don't like in the world. I guess i understand that it can be frustrating when you get to the point when you realize your opinions don't matter and your just an old man yelling at people from your porch.
You're no different from the 20-somethings of the 1960's, impatient with the pace of change and who didn't "trust anyone over 30". Think about it.

When you're young, you have less life experience on which to base thoughtful opinions. Knee-jerk reactions and getting all starry-eyed over the latest alternative solution are not substitutes for wisdom, for seeing things from more than just one angle. But you don't know that yet, not truly.

I don't have anything against hybrids or EV's per se, other than I won't be buying one. The next generation of existing cars that feature a bigger-than-average slice of 'fun' or 'sport' or just brute performance are best left mostly the way they are, to evolve their currently employed technologies.

EV/hybrid technology - which is really more revolution rather than evolution - should be confined to new model names and maybe a few of the names that have been retired. An EV Probe? Sure.

And for the record, i'm not a millennial, but the soundtrack that you guys keep playing, blaming them for everything is exhausting.
This thread is already too long for me to bother trying to sniff out examples of 'blame' in it.

Though I think you will have to agree that a generation so enamored of virtual connectivity - smart phones and tablets in particular - that they have been delaying getting their driver's licenses and buying cars at all . . . has managed to make itself an easy target.

I think the topic has sparked such passion because...we have been here before. The Mustang II and the Ford Probe...remember them? It is not outside the realm of possibility for Ford to reduce the Mustang to something the community doesn't want or seek to replace it altogether. It has happened before.

Sigh...resistance is futile. As I said earlier..make you plans to get one in your garage in next 3 years or less, because they won't be here forever. Even the 5.0 in its current form is being revised...and smaller displacement rumors are circulating. The fat lady is in dress rehearsal.

What I find hilarious is that people tend to forget perspective. I'm sure these heated arguments were happening when discussing the switch from leaded to fully unleaded gasoline as a standard. Or getting rid of the carbureted engine. Or putting ABS in cars standard. Or requiring passenger air bags.

Also, a multi-billion dollar company like Ford can engineer a car. I find it funny these forum "product specialists" who think that Ford hasn't taken into consideration their core market for the Mustang. If anything, their strategy has expanded the Mustang buyer, not the other way around.

It's all a matter of progress. You don't have to be afraid of it. Give your opinion, yes, but we're all here for the same reason.

I remember a lot of trash-talking regarding the independent rear suspension, i even know a lot of people who thougt, that a car with IRS cant be a true mustang. Personally i believe, that the s550 is the best incarnation of the mustang yet. Doesnt matter if its an i4,v6 or v8.
Its for that same reason, that i am looking forward to the s650 with a lot of hope. Im sure Ford will rock the s650 no matter how many cylinders, as long as they stay true to their credo "fast, fun, affordable"

That's really what the Mustang is supposed to be ... fast, fun, and affordable.

Funny thing is everyone thinks a Mustang is not a Mustang unless it has a V8..... even though it's had non-v8 trims ever since the very beginning.

Shhh shhhh shh...

Don't bring up facts..okay? The 65-66 was only the K code GT..everything else was just a silly lie. There were never A and C code 289's, or straight 6's..no..

HiPo only.

I'll make money selling my V8 sound track to the owners of these so-called cars of the future

Just don't base your reasoning for wanting something on a false premise such as "We are almost out of oil.", or "hybrids are good for the environment."

That's all I ask... and that the Mustang continues to be a performance bargain as well as fun to drive.

I don't like either hybrid or electric technology on sports cars. The reason is exhaust and engine sound. When you start a Mustang V8 or a Ferrari the first thing you like is how the engine sounds. When you accelerate, how the engine and exhaust sounds. What's the fun with an electric motor? Sports cars sell in small quantities compared to SUVs, trucks and sedans, so their carbon footprint is minimal, so I don't know why they insist on electrifying them. On the other hand, trucks consume a lot of gas and need lots of torque to do their duties, so an electric motor is the best solution. The same goes to SUVs. For sedans, I like quiet engines and lots of MPGs and again, hybrid and electric tech is the best solution.
Since the Mustang already has a non roaring offering (V6,EB) then a hybrid trim is not a bad idea.

Long live the V8!!
