I used the orginal trim ring, but with the grill. Also, the Pioneer bolt holes line up better than Redline. With Pioneer, I was able to use stock holes by just longating holes. With Redline, only 2 line up, other 6 have to be drilled into box in new location.

I would guess that as carrful as you can be, that some number of pins will break. If you push the pin from the side, it should release the trim ring easier. If your not going to reuse the stock grill, it doesn't matter. I located the trim ring on the speaker with double sided tape and then the metal grill screws over top of it.

I replaced the Pioneer with the Hifonics.

The improvement was massive and very noticable. Don't expect a huge thump because the amp can only do so much, but there was MUCH more there than with the stock sub and the Pioneer.

It is well worth it and only took 15 minutes and $49.

Those of you who did the upgrade - do you ever wish you would've went the full aftermarket sub in an pre-fab enclosure route instead?

This setup is super enticing, especially given the price and ease, but I'm a bit apprehensive that I will do the upgrade and still long for a little more "bump" (nothing crazy like 600W+, but more so maybe what a 300W RMS speaker would give out to still keep the other speakers stock)

Just replacing the speakers alone...it's loud enough for me now. if I was younger, different story.

I got my "retirement" Mustang so I could have fun and tinker with it. Even though the Pioneer sub really cleans up the B&O audio, most of this is because it doesn't produce a very muddy harmonic at the car's resonant frequency and allows you to turn up the bass for the door and rear shelf woofers. Although I can hear the Pioneer, it's not really punching as hard as I would like. I am contemplating switching out to a more sensitive subwoofer like Starship. I'll let you know how it goes.

GTdoc: Do it, you won't regret the extra $49 and 15 minutes to swap out to the Hifonics sub.

The only reason I got the Pioneer last year was so many here did it and said it was great. It was an improvement in quality, but it had zero presence. Could barely hear it.

My hunch said 1300W (Pioneer) is way too much when the amp is only 100W allocated to the sub. I tried a better wattage match and the improvement was massive.

If using the stock amp... filling the Pioneer with sound was like filling a bathtub with an eye dropper.

on the center dash install, i followed another member’s suggestion of using two layers of 2x sided tape

Truth be told, most of the time the top is down and I’m listening to a coyote serenade me

I PM'd and purchased. It works great.

For the center speaker, I just cut off the connector from the stock and added it to the new center. Drop it back in, and it works like a charm.

I do have the quick connectors, so adding it was a breeze. Clip the wires and put them in; close the link. Done.

I have the Pioneer D10D4 speaker, and it sounds great. Punchy enough; I can clearly hear the Bass in it. It is the 4-ohm dual-channel sub.

If you want a tighter more musical bass that doesn't boom then the Pioneer will work

If you want a massive thumping sub then it will not.

Depends on the music you listen too and how much you value your hearing!

Keep it warm. Either leave it in the sun for a bit or use a hair dryer to warm the ring up and it will be much easier (and I know that sounds very wrong!)
