I have the 9 speaker system and was just researching improving sound of it and came across threads on mustang6g about disconnecting the center dash speaker to improve the sound. has anyone done this on S650 yet? was thinking probably pry the speaker loose and disconnect the wire to it?

Do the chimes/nav come via the center speaker?

I know in the early B&O and previous Sony from the trucks, the center channel was just a combination of left and right and actually made the whole thing sound worse. I donā€™t know if thatā€™s changed but itā€™s nowhere near as muddy as my 17 Raptor Sony was before upgrading. And Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll chafe a few people here, but the mixing isnā€™t half bad on the ā€™24 b&o in my Dark Horse.
Itā€™s not perfect or audiophile, but Iā€™d give it a ā€˜goodā€™, maybe even very good - .

By itself, this wonā€™t do much - just like swapping the paper sub for a quality sub. Until you add an amp, etc. itā€™s essentially the same sound. If the center channel is just a combo of left and right then yes, disconnecting could improve the precision a bit, but it will be minor, not night and day.

When I got the car I was extremely disappointed by the flat sound of the base model sound system. I was considering blocking the central speaker, disconnecting it... Until I tried tweaking the EQ and got great results. Give it a try. I am pretty picky when it comes to music, and these settings work for me.

Can't agree with that and it seems many others have found the same in their S550. The OEM sub ruins the sound, replacing it allows the bass to show musicality and tightness. It isn't huge increase in bass but that isn't what I wanted, just more control of the original output.

If you want to see what the centre speaker does just put a book over the grille which will block out the sound!

I have mine set up about the same except bass level around 60 to 70 percent. it did improve the sound and have some bass now.
also if it is set to stereo instead of surround sound, i think it shuts down the center speaker some. i tried covering the center speaker and could not tell any difference. also have it set to all seats and not drivers seat.
it also makes a big difference what music source you use, so far youtube music has been best sounding for free music i have found.

I listen to audio books, youtube, pandora, apple music, everything sounds great at any volume. With everything in the middle it sounded like a cheap crappy boom box.
