I keep hearing about the DH handling. I must go drive one. I think my GT handles like a go-cart so it would be nice to compare.
See if you can drive one with the handling pack for full experience....
I absolutely thought my Mustang PP1 handled well for its rental car bones (I have friends that own high end exotics- R8s, Huracans, NSX exc) - had enough seat time in those to know my place.....But first time I drove a GT350- it felt closer to a supercar then to a rental car....massive difference.....

I havent driven a Dark Horse yet either - keep waiting for a used one to come up for sale near me......unless anyone wants to let me drive theirs in So Cal lol

So I am just guessing- but I would think the handling characteristics would be closer to my car

There are stickers on your door jamb. The Ford sticker with GVWR and tire sticker with payload weight. Subtract the payload from GVWR and that is the cars curb weight. Full fluids including gas

I have an A10 GT, and I love it. I beat a MT6 Dark Horse by 1/2 second consistently at the drag strip. I also have tracked my car and it does great, but a Dark Horse would beat my car on the track if both are stock. I just spent a bunch of time adding a differential cooler to my GT because it overheats on the track.

If your primary goal is to be the fastest in the 1/4 mile, then get the A10 GT. If your primary goal is to be track ready off the showroom floor, then get the Dark Horse (A10 or MT6, your choice). If you are going forced induction, then do what you want, but the Dark Horse has beefed up internals which may hold up better with boost.

Pick what works best for your use and enjoy your car!
My primary goal is to stop my wife from yelling at me every time I stomp on it. Every party has a pooper. Mine sits beside me. 💩

I just don't like the front end of the DH as much as the GT. I added wider tires/wheels, subframe connectors and a stop-the-hop kit. I'm still under $12k from a Dark Horse and I couldn't be happier with it on the track.

See the things I learn here: I’ve never heard of a stop-the-hop kit. I looked it up and saw it on Steeda. Interesting.
Mine doesn’t actually hop at any time it just side slides at each gear change. I think wider rear tires might help.

Generaly speaking, a slightly wider tire isn't going to help much - if at all - if the compound is just as stiff as the tires you have on there now. You need a sticker, softer tire to be able to hook up. But when you do that, you give up longevity. Better "drag strip" type performance means worse performance on the street (daily driving). And there are most certainly plenty of suspension mods that help put that power down as well.

I'm fortunate in that respect. My wife is the one who told me to get the Mustang and kept saying it when I thought about backing out.

I almost went with a GT because I really just want to supercharge it. I have wanted a supercharged 5.0 since I sold Fords 12 years ago, but I was 19 and in no position to do such things.
In the end, I went dark horse. I wanted all the little things that add up on the track as well as the tremec. The biggest factor though, I just thought it was cool? Granted, I didn't have to pay a markup either.... so that was nice.

I find people that seek understanding in the choices of others are looking to validate their own.

It doesn't matter why some would choose a Dark Horse over a GT, or an Ecoboost over a GT. They like what they like, you like what you like. They afford what they afford, you afford what you afford. Respect the choice, don't try and rationalize it.

If a persons identity rests with having the biggest and bestest and fastest then their issues go beyond what vehicle I choose to drive. Besides, having owned a 700whp GT I can tell you that there is ALWAYS someone out there with a faster car. No matter how big and bad we think we are.

At the end of the day?

I'm glad So-n-So has a GT
I'm glad So-n-So #2 has an Ecoboost*
I'm glad So-n-So #3 has a Dark Horse

* I'm still going to rib those guys cause it's an Ecoboost but it's just like being Army, or a Marine, even Navy (I'm pullin legs here folks). At the end of the day we talk shit about each other all day long but the moment a Civi decides he wants to open his mouth he gonna find a mountain of hurt no matter which way he turns cause it'll be a wall of servicemen (and women, blah blah blah).

The Dark Horse is the better choice for supercharging. It has upgraded internals, namely forged connecting rods, a unique balanced crankshaft, and strengthened camshafts.

Yup, my C7 Z06 would smoke the piss out of a Mustang GT or DH (and just about everything else that I came across during the time I owned it), but I didn't run around the discussion forums acting like it was the king of the hill because I knew there were faster cars out there - and I wouldn't get butthurt over 14 HP or think my chit doesn't stink because I don't have to shift gears.

You will also usually give up driving when weather is near 40°F or below and in some cases the rain

100% That was a big reason why I decided to order one and endure the wait time. I almost gave up on waiting since my order never actually got built, but luckily I found the spec I wanted right before I was about to get a GT.

Cars can be emotional purchases. Purchasing a Mustang based on what makes economic sense, the argument can be made all day for the GT or EcoBoost for that matter. I bought my DH because I wanted it and I could afford it. I never even considered the GT and still don't regret my purchase even with all the back and forth arguments I've read. I don't consider myself superior in any way owning a DH. But I also don't play the game of questioning whether or not I'm missing something or the constant need to justify my purchase. Just enjoy your car.

Gen 2/3 weren't exactly weak when it came to getting boost.

strengthened camshafts.
Were the cams just breaking like crazy? Never heard of that happening.

Are there two different part numbers for the Dark horse and GT or is this for all gen 4 engines?
