So, this is not my first car... For some reason I've never had any issues using crappy dirty gas station squeegees...

Then fast-forward some time, all of a sudden I managed to get several scratches on my windshield. I must have done it when I was scraping bird poop with my fancy squeegee (which I've since thrown away). I found other scratches as well, which I suspect was caused by using a microfiber towel... again to remove bird poop. Bird poop often contains grit and sand, which can really scratch up your car btw. I actually had to buff out the scratches, it was that bad.

This squeegee is in the trash.

And I got this for going forward.

So going forward, as stupid as this question sounds:

How do I clean my windshield/side windows/mirrors with my own squeegee without causing any more damage? I'm not asking how to professionally clean a window... I want to know how to wipe off the bugs off the glass when I make a stop to get gas.

thanks...

fluid, liquid, soap, water. I lean more toward a wet soaking wet rag than a squeegee. After the wet and clear and then squeeg but not until the bulk is gone.

For materials that seem glued on, I take a wet cotton cloth and just lay it on the surface for a bit; that's often enough to loosen the material and then wipe off.

I'd never use anything at a gas station. It's nice they make the bins and squeegees available, but you have no idea what any of those items have been through or what's in the bin. Consider making your own "to go" kit and keep in the trunk.

I do not use the products, but research any of the offerings for windshield coatings. You can purchase ceramic and other protectants. Some might work well at preventing the bugs from sticking or at least make them easier to remove.

I always carry a bag of my cleaning supplies in the Trunk. I use glass cleaner and a Microfiber Towel to clean all windows

you dont use a squeegee to clean only to dry it and even then i dont use that

use glass your cleaning liquid of choice and you should use microfiber towels in a rolling motion to not have the dirty part scraping on the windshield once the major stuff like sand and bird poop is off you can do regular rubbing.

fyi birds have little rocks in their stomach to grind up the food so sometimes they get passed through to the poop and your car.
