Jeez, talk about oil shocks.
98 is now $NZ3.55 litre and 95 is $NZ2.85. That's $US7.82 and $6.28 for a US gallon.
Still not stopping me from driving.
But our pathetic media are talking about carless days as in the late 70's when you could not drive one day a week.
Actually carless days were great for me. Most cops chose Wednesday as we never had Wednesdays rostered off. And I used the company bike for work.

Petrol prices in my area are up 30% since war start. Yesterday, I paid $4.65 USD a gallon, or $2.13 NZ a liter for Shell Premium. About as high as at the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

I suspect prices will continue to increase. How much would be a guess.

While the cost at the pump is obvious, this rise in pricing will permeate throughout the economy. Everything will become more expensive.

Food prices should trend higher, due to costs of fuel, transport and fertilizer. The Middle East produces some of the precursors used in agricultural compounds.

Many bulk shipping companies are starting to bypass the Middle East all-together, going around the Horn of Africa instead, leading to delays and additional costs in the products they carry.

Several Middle East countries have cut oil and chemical production. Those using the Straight of Hormuz can't ship it. There's nowhere left to store it. Later, they'll have to being turning down their facilities. Once down, it can take weeks to reverse those processes.

I can remember when gas was 19.9¢ per gallon. Of course, my salary as a soda jerk was .75¢ an hour. But like you, I still don't like paying over $50 to fill my tank.
Which means you most likely remember odd and even days.

Gas had been generationally cheap for decades now in the USA.

we probably need to mean revert closer to 5,6,7 a gallon. I’d expect higher prices this summer and a new wave of inflation.

there is still too much money and that’s a great way to draw down excesses.

I don’t know what they’re complaining about, weren’t those carb ev regs supposed to fix this?

The US can't sustain fuel prices even 1/2 what European countries pay. You can drive across several EU countries in the time it takes to traverse, say, Texas.

I'll be 80 in July...been there done that!! In 1970 when I left Ft Belvoir, VA after completing my military service, I filled my 1970 Pontiac GTO with high test for $33.9/gallon. In 1973, I went through the odd even days, truckers' strike, carpooling to work and enjoying the back porch. At that time, I had a 73 Chevy VEGA GT. I have seen the ups and downs of gas prices. Luckily vehicles today get better mileage. Who knows where the future will take us. Enjoy each day.

What are you even talking about.

I thought the hundreds of billions in subsidies for oil companies and loosening regulations on drilling were supposed to fix this.

I run only 93 octane. $4.30 now in Virginia. Hoping by end of month it comes back down again.

I would just love to see it under $2 again like in the past.

$3.90/gal for 93 O just before the "serious exchange of national views" 😆 started. $4.75/gal for 93 O today at the same station.

@Lou G ----I've always wanted to visit The Shire, but damn! Your scaring me with those prices! Hope it gets better for you soon.

It did but for some odd reason our prices are tied to some silly index.
