Back in the day there was GT350 Track Attack, GT500 Track Attack, Mach 1 Track Attack, DH Track Attack, Explorer St Experience.... No more. Ford Performance Racing School in Charlotte, NC is now Wheelhouse Racing. Had so much fun at the Mach 1 Track Attack, was looking forward to the 2026 Explorer ST experience, but alas, it is no more. If your 2026 window sticker, for any vehicle, doesn't show a Ford Performance invite, your not going without paying. Too many recalls and Ford needs to save money??

Press Release:

After two decades as being exclusively Ford-focused, Ford Performance Racing School is transitioning to Wheelhouse Racing School starting with the 2026 season.

TOOELE, UT, UNITED STATES, March 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — After 20 years of delivering adrenaline-fueled instruction and once-in-a-lifetime owner experiences, Ford Performance Racing School today announced it is changing its name to Wheelhouse Racing School effective with the 2026 season.

Founded in 2006, the school has been Ford-exclusive throughout its history, purchasing and prepping Mustang GTs to serve as its initial fleet of school vehicles.

School milestones over the years include:

• 2006 — Larry H. Miller launches the Ford Racing High-Performance Driving School at Miller Motorsports Park

• 2010 — The school’s name is shortened to the Ford Racing School

• 2015 – Ford Racing School introduces its new fleet of 2015 Ford Mustang GTs and the BOSS 302FRS race car
• 2015 – The Miller family ends its ownership of Miller Motorsports Park, and the school is acquired by The McKeever Group

• 2015 – Now an independent entity and following Ford’s lead, the school changes its identity to the Ford Performance Racing School

• 2019 – The school relocates its pavement-based driving operation from Utah to its new regional headquarters at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and moves its off-road programs to a dedicated off-road performance center in Tooele, Utah
• 2023 – Ford Performance Racing School upgrades its school fleet, replacing its Mustang GTs with Mustang Dark Horse school cars

In addition to the high-performance driving programs it conducted, Ford Performance Racing School pioneered immersive high-performance driving instruction and curated owner experiences for drivers of Ford performance vehicles. These vehicles ranged from sport compacts to trucks, with venues tailored to the vehicles themselves – whether road course, public roads, drag strips, mountains, or desert. From track-focused driver training to dynamic lifestyle events, these industry-leading owner programs have created lasting memories for more than 60,000 extremely satisfied owners and guests.

“Since day one, our relationship with Ford has been the cornerstone of our success,” said Dan McKeever, president of the school. “We are incredibly proud of the trust Ford placed in us to represent the Ford brand and its performance vehicles to its passionate owners. As industry interest in partnering with our school has grown, it became clear that evolving our brand would allow us to build on that foundation while continuing to honor our Ford heritage.”

Under the Wheelhouse name, the organization will continue delivering owner programs for Ford Mustang customers, maintaining the same high standards of instruction, safety, and hospitality that have defined the school for two decades. At the same time, its high-performance racing school will continue to attract both track and off-road driving enthusiasts, further strengthening its position as a leader in brand immersion and high-performance driver education.

All Mustang programs will continue to be based at the school’s dedicated facility at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC, ensuring continuity for customers and partners alike. New off-road programs will be announced soon and will be based at the school’s dedicated facility in Tooele, UT. Bespoke B2B and customer-facing corporate programs, tailored to meet specific business goals and objectives, will remain available at both regional locations.

As Wheelhouse Racing School begins this next chapter, its mission remains unchanged: create unforgettable moments behind the wheel by enhancing driver skills and confidence through world-class instruction delivered in a safe, controlled environment.

About Wheelhouse

Since its opening in 2006 as Miller Motorsports Driving School, Wheelhouse has offered high-performance driving instruction and immersive vehicle experiences for drivers of all skill levels. In addition to offering traditional driving instruction at retail, Wheelhouse is home to business and product training programs conducted for BFGoodrich, Castrol, and Michelin, along with the experiential owner programs it pioneered for qualifying new Ford vehicles. Starting with the Boss Track Attack program in 2012, over time these programs grew to include the ST Octane Academy (Fiesta ST and Focus ST), GT350 Track Attack, RS Adrenaline Academy (Focus RS), Raptor Assault (F-150 Raptor, F-150 Raptor R, and Ranger Raptor), ST SUV Experience (Edge ST, Explorer ST and Explorer ST-Line), GT500 Track Attack, Mach 1 Track Attack, Dark Horse Track Attack, and Mustang Unleashed (Mustang GT and EcoBoost).

Wow, that is disappointing. Recalls have been killing Ford, but I imagine the new F1 endeavor may be pricey too? Whatever the reason, it's a bummer.

This is sad and embarrassing after the new Ford Racing rebrand. Those programs were awesome

Hopefully they are still on going. I went to the off-roadeo Bronco event in Vegas and it was an amazing experience

None of them i went to was "ford". It was a company contracted out to do them. So a company buy out may not equal discontinued.

Broncoboy22, i went to bronco school in texas. Rock crawling up granite outcrops in marble falls. It was awesome but not doing it again. Lol. Ranger raptor is more baja type driving. Hi speeds on dirt. Will be a new experience for me.

Hopefully they stick with the invites…it wasn’t a deciding factor when I purchased my DH, but after reading about it on this forum, definitely would like to go…seems like a fun experience and focused on our actual vehicles. I guess I won’t get my hopes up…

After going to it, we were able to book a private lesson at a local track. $300 for that compared to airfare, hotel, etc to go to NC for the track attack. I can't really say one was better.
At track attack you are following the leader while driving solo in the car. Every lap they put a different driver behind the lead car. In this atmosphere you are following the instructord travel and braking lines. They are communicating the whole time.
At the local track the instructor is in the car with you. Not as easy but you are learning vs following.
After a few sessions i switched to autocross. After 2 events this is what i will do consistently. $50 ish dollars per event. Its something almost anyone can do monthly.
I suck, but i loved all of it. Also do drag racing along with the Texas Mile. Texas mile is my second favorite event but its about $600 plus hotel.
Point being-there are plenty of things to do, hopefully close to home.

I did the free DH Attack 1 day school last year. Loved it. Going back next week for the Ford Performance (now Wheelhouse) 2 day event & the 1 day Advanced school (4/2,3,4). The advanced day is 1:2 instruction. Can’t wait. Unlike the Corvette school which is an undulating race track surrounded by flat desert, the Roval has barriers & walls that can ruin your day. Needless to say, I bought the insurance. I’ll let you know how it goes. I’m expecting it to be like the previous school with just a name change.
Also, I bought a new 2025 Explorer ST 12/2025 & received the invitation to the school 2 weeks ago. FYI.

I may see you there.

Also not on my Window Sticker. I was aware of it and entered my purchase info in their website and picked my dates.

The general populous doesn't know 'Wheelhouse', and neither did I till this press release. It makes zero sense to replace a name with brand recognition to one that is so obscure that it may be mistaken for a shop that sells wheels.

Ford Performance was a solid name that had more bandwidth than Ford Racing as well. All of this rebranding is complete waste of money and doesn't move the brand forward one bit.

It seems irrelevant as the general populous referrs to it as "track attack", not "ford performance racing school". I don't think the other school offerings are owned by ford either. I went to the "bronco off-roadeo" and have no idea who actually owns the company that ford contracts with.

I've gone to many of them, two GT350 days, Focus RS day and two off roadeos. They're all contracted by Ford. Without the Ford branding and the money that Ford pays them they would not likely be able to keep the lights on. They were all pretty good programs but I honestly would have looked elsewhere if the days weren't included in the sale of the vehicles.
