Hi everyone! I was working on my wheel arches and cleaning the underbody today when I noticed something interesting. There are some unpainted spots inside the suspension towers on both sides. It looks like a factory defect.

Unfortunately, I only took a photo of one side. The other side was even worse, there was already some corrosion.

Make sure to check yours, it would be a shame for corrosion to start in these unprotected areas!

Are you concerned about the specks I'm seeing, like epoxy or primer overspray?

Or, are you concerned the area is not painted the color of the car?

As someone that worked in Ford paint department for years, this is ridiculous.
The frame skids have different mounts/points etc to accommodate prior vehicles etc.
If you understood what the body itself went through it would make a ton more sense. As far as being hung, chained, dipped, sprayed.

I find it absurd that you’re so reluctant to admit there’s something wrong with the production process. I’m letting you know so you can check your own cars, as you might have the same issue. These are underpainted spots where only the conversion coating was applied. There’s no corrosion on the right side yet, but the left side is already rusting. I’ll take a photo of the other side on Saturday and show it to you.

I would also like to see the other side to see what OP is talking about.

But I wonder about these things. Every screw hole is exposed in the threads. And if you ever replace a body panel (like the steel fenders on our S650s), they scratch and rub a little bit during fitment and getting screwed in. So metal gets exposed there too. Just how bad is stuff like this for rust? The screws for holding on body parts are coated in paint, which chips off as soon as any tool touches it.
