Or wait for the aftermarket to come out with a replacement grille.
Anderson Composites told me they are making one with open mesh in that area but they don't have an ETA on that part yet.

judging by past model years and items RTR should release a non LED kit at some point hopefully

It would be no different that running the car on a dyno with the hood open and the air box covers removed.

So if the ECU can compensate in that scenario, then there is no issue.

I think it is very possible that cutting out the plastic mesh could cause this small opening to create a restriction. In order to have good flow you want the exiting air to have more available flow than the intake. If they have balanced this out in their design you could be creating the opposite effect that you are looking for. This isn't a fact but just an observation. I will not be cutting mine out, at least until someone proves it is for the better flow.
I think you nailed it. In the world of RC planes, when cutting airflow holes to cool the ESC, the rule is that exit holes in the fuselage have to be 3X the area of the intake holes.

Ford could have made the grills as open or restrictive as they wanted, so I’d like to think they did what they did for a sound reason.
