Car shows are more trouble than enjoyment?

Hello everyone.
First please understand my situation is different than most.
63 years of fighting leukemia.
3rd car show this year in Maine.
They had the cars in a grassy field you had to slowly drive into.
Before I turned my car off.
I put it in gear and pulled back out.
I was lucky because it had started raining hard and the cars were being blocked in by food trucks.
You had no space to sit behind cars.
Just wasn’t excited to see the people being too close to my car .
Lots of people drinking because of fireworks later.
Enjoyed the drive more than usual.
If it was just mostly car people I’d love it.
Anyone else have experience with car shows?

Not every event it worthwhile.

A grassy field is a fail. Mud, rocks, holes, risk of fire and the terrain potentially not supporting the weight or tire of some vehicles.

Night events present their own issues. As does people drinking en-masse. Look for events which are specific to cars, not where the cars are an add-on to something else.

Venues and food trucks attract people. They should be kept well off to the side, to give everyone access, while allowing attendees space to mill about and look at what's on show.

The display vehicles should be kept in their own area. People can walk around freely, but spectator vehicle traffic cannot enter.

Parking spaces can be tight. People do have to be careful when opening doors, trunks or setting up seating. They have nice cars to, so this is often not an issue.

As to the people themselves, some will walk up and touch things. Doing so helps affirm to the brain what a person is seeing. Worst I've experienced is case of finger prints.

I've never witnessed anyone sitting on, leaning against or attempting to get into a vehicle. You can keep the hood closed and the windows up.

I'd do some more reconnaissance before attending. Maybe show up in your Daily Driver and tour one beforehand, to decide if you'd like to return for a later event with your 7G. Google Maps can help anyone study the entry, layout and exits. You can also call or e-mail ahead, to confirm if you are free to come and go, or are locked in for the duration of the event.

I'd search for any area Cars and Coffee events. If you've not attended one before, these are often in the AM, in a large lot. Informal. Come-and-go as you please. Organized and attended by automotive enthusiasts. Look for shows like this, organized by C&C, hosted by a small business or vocational school.

I've been visiting at least one show a week. This week I'm going tonight and tomorrow morning.

The only thing I avoid is parking next to cars with little kids. I've seen them open doors carelessly without control.

Believe it or not the other thing I've had to do is put a sign underneath the hood (when open) that says "Please look, but don't touch". You'd think you wouldn't have to say anything but there was always one person who wants to put their fingers on my air oil separator or my clear air box lids. I'm not sure why. . 99% of people are respectful, but there's always one doofus who can't admire something without putting his hands on it. Just part of showing the car get used to it. Some people think visiting a car show is like visiting a dealer showroom. Most people are respectful though.

I guess it depends on the car culture and what shows. Here, car culture is a huge thing. Multiple shows, big and small, for all types of vehicles. Classic shows, Truck shows, Bike shows, Super car/Exoctic shows. Also, car meet hangouts.

You just need to pick a show you want to go to. Shows in the grass? Well, we really do not have them; if we do, they are on purpose. Some of the 4x44 shows are in grass or dirt on purpose. As others have said, most are respectful. If there's no room to sit behind your car, well, sit in the front to the side.

I enjoy going to the shows. It is great to see what others have done to their vehicles. Just be mindful and keep an eye out. Sometimes you may get that ONE person or kid who does not respect property. Shoo them along and just enjoy the show.

you need to go to events that are attended by enthusiasts, not events where they are using you to draw Joe Blow and his kids to spend money on the concession stands.

I've been doing car shows for about 40 years. There are always some people with no respect. My dad was one to rope his cars off to keep people away... I could never do that. While around here in rural country, they are quite often held in a park or other venues on grass or in a field... first and foremost... know the weather report! Organizers around here seem to keep the events and vendors well away from the cars. And of course they are not all created equal... some locations or certain organizations have better events, you won't know till ya go.
