yep, the PCM has a value that you just change from 1 to 2 to enable "Select Shift Transmission"
Does it allow you to edit the PCM using forscan? When I tried it failed.

I have the “M” drive mode on my dash but the paddles work in “D” drive mode without forscan.

Correct, the non-HPP EcoBoost models do not come with factory paddle shifters and have a “L” drive mode where “M” is on the models with paddle shifters.

I can confirm that swapping the wheel to one with paddle shifters does work (either a GT take-off, or a Dark Horse wheel which also adds the satin black trim piece), the wiring is all the same. The only thing that will not work is adding a heated steering wheel if your model was not originally spec’d for one, that wiring isn’t there.

No FORscan is needed if you just want to use the paddles in “D,” but you do need to enable Select Shift with FORscan to make the “L” mode work like “M”, that’s an easy change to make. The only thing I haven’t figured out yet is “Continuous Gear Display” which should be editable via FORscan but isn’t working for me yet (EcoBoost, 101A, non-HPP) so although the paddles do work, my dash does not ever show which gear I’m in.
thank you so much for the info it’s much appreciated, if you get the gear display issue figured out please let us know.

This is about the 3rd or 4th time I've seen this issue crop up on line. While on the surface, this seems like a simple possibility (fix?), but alas it is not.

First, you need the steering wheel. I have 'just' a 2024 Premium, it does have a heated steering wheel, and Ford loves their heated steering wheels! You're not going to find one used at least not for a few months until someone smashes and bashes one. A new one replete with the paddles, does not come in the same color as my OEM. Oh, so I make do with one a bit darker, but the nearly $1,980 price tag (friendly price) makes it a bit steep! Then you need the Forscan. I have one, but it won't do what I need even with the upgraded firmware. That's another rather large expense. By the time you're through, you might as well trade in what you have for what you want!

In my case, I needed a car (my insurance would have indeed rented a car), but I don't like Dodge II which is some sort of French car with a different badge on the grill. I knew what I wanted, and after a bit more than $40K, I got exactly what I ask for. Do I miss the paddles? Not really, my 2019 Ranger has a sports mode, and using the stick's built-in switch is good enough. Fact is, after numerous 1/4s, letting the 10R80 row its own, still results in the best times!

I've also learned, that if I really want to dust the competition, all I need to do is set up the Drag mode correctly, let the 10R80 shift right at the max torque! While a tick slower than a 3:55 equipped car, the 3:15 does one thing the PP can't do, and that is have longer legs than I have!

While I'm B, M, and C-ing (Bitch, Moan, and comparing), I have a few other gripes!

First, I don't like poor English, especially from those folks who are so darn lazy, they have to use euphemisms like LoL, IMHO, etc. Geez! Can't you spell out what you want to say? Further, the word BRAKE refers to (in this case) to the devices used to slow a car down. BREAK means (for example) you're going to take 10 minutes to rest. While you're resting, why don't you look at what you're written, and make sure what you typed is what you want to say! Or ask!

Homophones and homonyms notwithstanding, if you want to get your point across without a bunch of extraneous and misspelled verbiage, sit on your post for a few minutes, before you hit that Post button!

Forscan is free, the adapter is cheap, and you can get a brand-new wheel for $395 (straight from the Dark Horse). So, no, it’s not the $1,980 “friendly price” you’re claiming. A little research can go a long way.

Also, let’s be real for a second—no one here is a pro. This forum exists for people to share ideas, learn, and figure things out together. If you’re not into discussions and just want to complain, maybe forums aren’t the right place for you. The negativity isn’t helping anyone, least of all you.

“As-built config is as-built”—sure, but people are allowed to change their minds or upgrade later. Whether it’s because their preferences shifted or their financial situation improved, that’s their call. Why gatekeep the conversation with condescension?

Finally, nitpicking grammar while simultaneously “B, M, and C-ing” about homophones? Come on, man. Let’s keep the discussion helpful and focused on solutions, not tearing each other down.

The Forscan is just part of the equation. Look up the price of the steering wheel with heating and paddles. Geesh! That's the nearly $2,000, and that's with a 25% discount!

whoever you are buying parts from, they're really having their way with you. the most expensive steering wheel Ford has for the Mustang is for the California Special with auto transmission, heated steering wheel, and CoPilot 360+, being $1041.62 retail with no core charge. Ford Performance has the automatic transmission, heated, CoPilot 360+ steering wheel from a Dark Horse for sale for less than $600

LOL, nobody's perfect... you should have taken a BRAKE to read what you've written.
