@roket I believe we are trying to do similar projects related to the IPMA & adding new features! I have a thread dedicated to doing that, but haven't gotten much traction.

I'd like to see if we could share info - adding 360 cameras AND front parking sensors would be an amazing addition to these cars.

From what I can tell:

IPMA would need to be swapped for a few reasons:

Insufficient memory available to process inputs (problem on older platforms/S550)
Incorrect/missing inputs on LIN bus for additional sensors
Incorrect/missing video inputs for additional cameras
Replacing the IPMA may present some issues via FDRS, as the VIN is encoded on the IPMA, and may control the availability of ford pass features.

Beyond that, we should be able to manufacture a new wiring harness OR re-pin the existing harness to correctly install and make the hardware visible to the new APIM. From there, it should be a Forscan session or two away.
oh, i must have missed your thread. the main holdup for me is money, an IPMA is especially expensive, but buying a takeoff should work fine. as for the VIN mismatch, it should be fixable with FORScan and the only real issue being FDRS asking for the VIN when a new session is made. the actual additions should be easy enough. the coax cable connectors are also kina expensive and tricky to set up the pins themselves. the main difficulty with the parking sensors is placement and alignment

As mentioned by rocket, you can write the VIN yourself with FORScan. It is in block 19 of the IPMA.

I think the trickiest part in terms of programming would be what IPMA firmware to sideload that will allow everything to work properly. Also, does the GWM module software support 360 cameras/sensors? I tried side-loading the IPMA software from my truck into a few Expo's and Navigators to try and get BC 1.4 to work on them, and we could not get it to work. On the Navigator, we also tried side-loading the IPMA software from a 2024 Navi onto a 2022 and got lane change to work, but not the other BC 1.4 features. We believe the reason it won't work is because the events are not supports by the GWM. These types of things you won't know until the bridge is crossed to try and get there.

the GWM doesnt do a lot for the 360 cam. the cable coming out of the IPMA with the actual video signal goes into the display, it does not send it over the networks. the current plan is to swap in an IPMA due to the lack of physical features on the Mustang's. The Mustang uses incredibly basic features for the IPMA, being rear parking sensors, blind spot sensors, and the collision avoidance camera, and thats really it to my knowledge. i imagine every single modern IPMA can do those, so anything more is a straight upgrade

Someone mentioned they got the front parking sensors to work in the thread I started, but did not provide any details.

@Rocket I think I got the same info you did regarding the video feeds, it appears they feed straight into the IPMA. I assume they are switched/powered on when they are commanded to do so via the network, but that should be it for involvement from the CAN.

As for upgrading the firmware in the swapped IPMA - would that be a concern at all, being that we would be pulling it from a vehicle with these features already enabled/in use? From what I could tell, the IPMA has the same base part number between most Ford vehicles, but has different versions/revisions based on the requirements of the vehicle it will be installed in, if I'm thinking right @rugedraw?

you quoted the wrong roket. my nams has no "C" in it. also, all the features should be configurable with FORScan

I am not 100% sure, tbh. If the IPMA comes from a vehicle that has everything working already, then it should just be some config changes needed to get them to work.

Be sure that whatever vehicle you pull the IPMA from is not running TRON encryption on it. The newer Ford vehicle are using TRON in certain modules including the IPMA.

what even happens if a mismatched TRON module gets plugged in? just a code?

I only miss sound from front sensors. I assume that ACM or IPMA FW miss some strategy.

From my understanding, FORScan won't even recognize the module is installed. From what I have been told from a few people that have newer vehicles, the modules in the TRON network do not show up in FORScan at all.

that would be autocorrect on my Mac, sorry!

I'd be willing to spend the money on an IPMA from a wrecked car, but how would we determine what the correct/best option is?

unfortunately, the IPMA is part of the Mustang TRON network

Well crap. Do any of those modules show up when you plug in FORScan in the as built config section?
yep, every one of them. i even had to change tire size on a customer 2024 Super Duty and everything worked fine
