this is a thread i am putting together for a 360 camera addition. i've already done a bit of research, but no actual progress towards the final product yet.

as of this moment, here is what i do know:
some F-150 owners have successfully added the 360 camera onto their non-360 camera models.
most Ford vehicles made after 2021 use the IPMA for this, but older vehicles use a dedicated IPMB.
non-360 IPMAs are physically missing a connector for the four cameras.
what seems to be every Ford except the Mustang uses the IPMA as a sort of pass-through, but the Mustang directly connects the rear camera to the center display.
the Mustang also seems to be missing another connector that is present on every other vehicle, but this connector seems to mainly take care of front corner radars, the CHMSL camera, and the add-on camera. there is nothing preventing the addition of some of these things
for some reason, the IPMA also handles blind spot sensing and parking sensors, so a front parking sensor retrofit may be possible

in total, IPMAs can have up to 5 connectors, 3 of which are on every single vehicle produced today. a beige connector that does mainly LIN busses, park aid sensors, and the BLIS lights. a black connector that mainly does front center and rear radar plus IPMA camera heating element and some other CAN busses. a light grey connector that is not on the Mustang which is the one that does CHMSL camera, front corner radar, and add-on camera. a brown connector with spots for up to 4 coaxial cables, used on the Mustang for IPMA camera and for rear view camera pass-through on all other models. a green connector with spots for up to 4 coaxial cables, which is where the four 360 cameras go if the vehicle has it. if there is a green connector, almost always the brown connector will have 2 cables coming out; one for the IPMA camera and one for the video output for the APIM. otherwise it will have 3 cables.

from what i can see as of now, everything looks very doable, however there are two unknowns currently.
1. how will the center screen behave with the new input? its used to just one camera directly, but this will be changing it to send a much, much more complex video signal.
2. how do we get the 360 to show up at the press of a button? the F-series trucks have a button that goes to a dedicated "Camera" pin on one of the connectors, but then that doubles down on point 1

This is great info.
Not too surprised the video connections are different between 360 and non-360 models.

The missing plug is the hardest part. Not being there can easily mean the components, on the board itself, are also missing. And mostly like at a minimum, there are pull-up (or pull-down) resistors on some or all of the lines.
And with the pin on the other connectors being jumbled means the internals are different.
Based on this, the IPMA module needs to be swapped. And the wiring harnesses re-pinned.

What is interesting is the MachE and F150 have some pins different. I wonder if comparing to an Escape or ‘25 Maverick (which have 360) might be worth it. Maybe those would be an easy IPMA to worth with? I’m thinking this because those are the same size screen as the Mustang. And the MachE, I believe is Sync 4a, while the Mustang/Escape/Maverick are Sync 4; not sure what Sync version F150 was.

Looks like pin 10 on the black connector is the camera button. MachE is all touch screen, so that pin is not populated on it.

On the F150, 360 views are enabled in the APIM here. Just pulled the ab data from a random 2024 Mustang and it shows an 8 in the field below which makes sense for rear camera only vehicles.

i did some looking on some stock units at work and found this very interesting thing

IPMA in the back of a 2025 Maverick, and they just left the grey connector empty entirely

the pins are not jumbled, but its just the wording is different but usage is the same, but some are not used. for example, the beige connector pins 2 and 3 are unused on the F-150 and Mach-E because they light up the BLIS indicator via communication over CAN network. the Mustang and Maverick lights them up directly, though through those pins. this is also an option you can enable and disable in FORScan. the F-150 uses SYNC 4 as well. the general shape and mounting of the module appears to also be the same across all vehicles that use it. i also added the Maverick's connectors to the first reply too

Well look at, nice! Ford said they wanted to get to fewer screens, maybe they also went to fewer IPMAs; that would be good.

I was kind of wondering if that was the case, but didn’t study too much. So that is good news too.

thank you, this does have quite a bit of useful info. based on what i found last night and this morning combined with the info from there, i think its pretty straight forward from here (relatively, of course) to actually start the project. something in me says that a step is missing somewhere, though, and im not sure why. i planned out the connectors, IPMA, wiring, camera, camera mount fabrication, but im not sure what i feel is missing

Mirrors? If you want side views. Not sure how you solve that though.
Not sure if IPMA needs any ‘Mustang specific’ things put on it; but probably not.
Other than that, time, $ and Forscan should be it.

side views will be easy enough. 3D print a mount for the camera, drill into the mirror, and run the coax cable to the IPMA

If you figure out a solution to the front issue I would be very happy!!! Good luck!

This bit in the IPMA looks like an important piece of the puzzle:

i managed to source all of the original connectors on the IPMA (except ethernet). it uses connectors from TE Connectivity, Rosenberger, and Yazaki. i have been getting better and better at finding connectors on Mouser
