I completed the first oil change on my 2025 Mustang GT. The factory-specified oil capacity is 9.5 quarts. After filling to that amount and allowing the oil to settle, the dipstick level read low, just above the lower indicator hole. After adding an additional 0.5 quart, the oil level now reads nearly halfway up the dipstick hash marks.

I’m trying to determine whether this behavior is normal, whether other owners have experienced similar readings, or if this is related to the reduced oil capacity Ford implemented for the 2024–2025 model years.

I would appreciate input specifically from 2024–2026 Mustang owners with direct, hands-on experience. Please refrain from commenting if you do not own one of these model years. Thank you.

Curious, I went out to the Ford site to see what was posted.

2024:

- Viewing the HTML version, "the most up-to-date" version", the V8 oil capacity is 9.5 qt / 9 l.

- Viewing the PDF version, printing 1, the capacity is 10 qt / 9.5 l.

https://www.ford.com/support/owner-...VEpgefO7f2EZcqrF94ihFFcCUGmlN9SJXgHgjLrFalmi1

2025: Viewing both HTML and printed versions, the V8 oil capacity is listed as 9.5 qt / 9 l in both.

Notice how 10 qt converts to 9.5 l (9.46). IMO, these are a series of typos by Ford, when converting from imperial to metric as they (the bots) were proofing documents. Starting with the error in the '24 documentation, that carried through into '25, on-line and printed.

The OP found the sweet spot, the middle of the stick, at 10 qt/ 9.5 l. FWIW, I'd stay with that and take physical readings vs. what the document states.

For those getting oil changed at the dealer, I would check levels before leaving. Service Techs using the manual as a reference, and not the stick, could end up with a lower-than-expected level.

Edit,

I haven't noticed a thread at 7G involving physical dipstick lengths and markings, but if someone is putting in 9.5 qt/9 l confirmed and reading "full", the upper-most "X" mark, I'd be curious about that.

This has been questioned many times. Like Skye said use the stick. I put in 9.5QTS stick reads in the middle between full and low holes. I add 1/2QT stick reads full. I have changed oil twice on my PP GT. Very simple way to verify oil level.

Bottom of hash marks from the factory
10 quart oil change put it around half in hash marks
bringing it to 10 quarts total, the level sits almost in the middle of the hash marks as well.

I put in 10 quarts which brings the oil level to the top of the hash marks. If that isn't correct, my car should have blown up by now as well as every other vehicle or engine driven machine I've ever owned. Easy peasy. I doubt seriously if a half quart in a 10 quart oil pan is going to make any difference. Common sense.

Mine took 9.5L. I only use the capacity figure as a guide, I always rely on........... "the stick".

Under the hashes by half a quart, in the middle of the hashes or full?

I’ve been changing my own oil for over 40 years. I’m meticulous. Our 2025 GT uses exactly 10 quarts. Almost exactly on the full mark on the stick. I usually let the engine drain overnight.

My 2024 was delivered with the correct amount of oil showing on the stick. I've done 2 changes so far and 10 US quarts with a filter is perfect.
