The problem is that—much like the newest Ford GT—if you aren’t one of Ford’s chosen ones, you’re likely to pay a HEFTY premium on the secondary market. That GTD is just so badass. It's like a mustang, '05 Ford gt, and second gen Ford gt all came together to create this kickass baby. It's genuinely near the top of my "Expensive as hell, but still possibly obtainable if I live like a hermit" cars. I can't think of many six figure track weapons I would rather own.
Similar wings cost around $900. Proper installation for the larger wings might run you $250 ~ $300, they need to spend some time lining it up, punch holes, sand, rustproof paint, apply sealant, then install, so it's worth looking for a good installer.I like the wing of the GTD. I wonder how much that would cost to put in my current EcoBoost or a potential future GT?
At first, I wouldn't be surprised if the first GTDs to hit the market are going for like 500k at dealerships. But 5, 10, 15 years from now. It'll be interesting to see what the long term used values are like. Are one hand, it's a really cool, and great performing car, on the other hand it's "just a mustang" that's being produced in the thousands. The problem is that—much like the newest Ford GT—if you aren’t one of Ford’s chosen ones, you’re likely to pay a HEFTY premium on the secondary market.
I will be curious to see what this means going forward. I find it highly likely this whole mustang supercar idea is something that spans several generations to come. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Ford was able to learn from the development process of the GTD, and trickle that tech down to a similar, cheaper mustang in the future as these things tend to go.The problem is that—much like the newest Ford GT—if you aren’t one of Ford’s chosen ones, you’re likely to pay a HEFTY premium on the secondary market.
The S550 CFP GT500 rear spoiler retails for $30,000, and the GT350R wing $13,000. Seriously.I like the wing of the GTD. I wonder how much that would cost to put in my current EcoBoost or a potential future GT?
With the ZR1 around, I don't think it will be a bargain until the mid 100s. We shall see. These things will be a bargain in they ever depreciate into like the 200s. Long shot, I know.
The ZR1 definitely takes the cake for power but it doesn't make all that much downforce. 1,200 lbs at max speed (215 mph)....that's honestly pretty terrible. The GT3RS makes 1,900 lbs at 170 mph and I'm sure the GTD is similar. With the ZR1 around, I don't think it will be a bargain until the mid 100s. We shall see.
We'll never see a mustang GTD in the 100s unless it's been totaled or something. As someone who desperately wants to own one, I wish we would, but it won't happen. With the ZR1 around, I don't think it will be a bargain until the mid 100s. We shall see.
Great photos! We hope you had a great time during the Dream Cruise. Thanks for sharing.
