Hands on steering wheel warning

I only use lane warning. If I cross the line I get little red lines and green when back in the lane. I use Adaptive Cruise all the time and don't keep both hands on the wheel at all times because I am shifting gears. No warning even if both hands are off the wheel. I have a 2024. Maybe software update for 2025 2026.

Manual owners like us don’t have the warning problem. We don’t get lane centering, at least in the US.
Truthfully I would not mind having the option for longer highway cruises.

That warning is always active and I have not yet seen an option to disable it. It comes on way sooner when the cruise control + lane centering is enabled. When driving without cruise control or cruise control without lane centering it appears very rarely.

That's to prevent people not to use it too long without using their hands. It's a safety feature you can't turn off.

I never turn lane centering on and I never see the warning.

The second I turn it on I inevitably see it within an hour of driving.

I'm already the quintessential old guy driving a cool car. I don't need to wander back and forth in my lane just to keep my car from nagging me. I'm going to look like grandpa Miller wandering all over the lane in his DeSoto.

I get the warning, and the "go get some coffee" warning that I am sleepy. It pisses me off because it wakes me up. Man, that is annoying.

The coffee thing can be turned off in the menu. At least on mine.

Have the same problem on our 2021 Escape. Ford really needs to have an "ACTUAL" Hands On Pressure Sensor or Capacitive Sensor.

There's already Wiring going to the Steering Wheel for Heat. Shouldn't be too hard to run a Harness and Sensors from the Wheel for a "REAL" Hands On System.

in summary, the car basically drives itself and instead of enjoying the ride you are sitting there wiggling the wheel instead of steering. impressive.

Can you post the data on that? Ive seen an aftermarket kit that uses weight on the paddle shifters to defeat it. Also if it worked on torque there shouldn't be a difference between two hands at 10 and 2 and cupping one hand under the bottom. But there definitely is.

There is no difference on how many hands you have on the wheel or where you place your hands.
