Hands on steering wheel warning

As mentioned, the steering sensor goes off of weight. You can't cup the wheel from the bottom or it will alert you.

On the subject. Why am I the only one who is disturbed that people are bitching about keeping both hands on the wheel while your car literally steers itself? Have we really gotten that spoiled and immune to safe driving? People are so quick to rip on distracted drivers, but we're going to get mad about a nanny alert for a convince feature that we dont need and is arguably much less safe than driving with both hands on the wheel like we've been doing for the last 100 years?

Agreed! I don't mind the occasional intrusion. There are enough problems with distracted drivers. Yesterday, going to a doctor, stuck in a traffic jam, some idiot in a beemer rear ended my wife's brand new Murano Platinum. Thank God there was no damage! About two miles later, 5 mile backup, the idiot came close again. I got out of the car and told him to get off his fxxxxxg phone. With aholes reading newspapers while in their Tesla's, I think it's good Ford makes us hold the wheel. Self driving cars are not the panacea everyone thinks they are! And there are dead people to prove it! And, no, I am not saying any of you are driving without holding the wheel! Glenn

I wish there was a sensitivity adjustment for it because I get warned too much even when my hands are on the wheel. As a result I shut it off and rarely use it. It's such a waste of technology to have it on the car and operate poorly. I could understand if it warned me when I was driving one handed on the bottom of the wheel. But I'll be driving 10 and 2 and it still warns me.

Not sure if same, but on Australian models you double click the ‘Lane Keeping’ button on steering wheel to disable…

I turned off the lane keeping permanently off using this forscan toggle. never used it, never will.

I don't think it exists, tho I admit I didn't go down to my car and click thru every single layer of every single menu in order to appease the hypothetical "well akkktually" internet troll.

You hit the button and the system turns on. You hit the button again and it turns off. When the system is on, you have to jiggle the steering wheel every so often or you get the warning.

I have no special knowledge, but my theory is the system works on input torque rather than actual wheel movement. When I'm cruising on the highway w/ the steering set to "comfort" I get a lot more warnings than if the steering is set to "sport". Comfort takes less effort, so I can't really rest my hands on the wheel w/o the car moving... sport takes more effort, so I can rest on the wheel w/o changing direction.

Its for more leg room. A flat bottom doesn't mean they wanted you to cup the wheel from the bottom and drive.

A flat bottom helps a fat-ass like me get in… But I drive with both hands on most of the time and still get bleeped at… still at least it doesn’t try to take bends on its own (at totally the wrong angle) like my Golf R did. now that’s nanny driving gone too far.

Wrong. You can't turn only the function hands on the steering wheel off. Of that was true, than the Mustang would almost have a Bluecruise.

The only way to turn this feature off is to turn all driving assists off, which defeats the reason why they want to turn the warning off.

If you use adaptive cruise control, the car steers itself, even in corners. With this featute on, you caj drive for around 15 seconds without your hands on the steering wheel before the warning pops up. You can deive for a couple more seconds without grabbing the wheel before the car starts running slower.

I only use lane warning. If I cross the line I get little red lines and green when back in the lane. I use Adaptive Cruise all the time and don't keep both hands on the wheel at all times because I am shifting gears. No warning even if both hands are off the wheel. I have a 2024. Maybe software update for 2025 2026.

Keep it longer of the wheel while using adaptive cruise control and lane centering and you will have it.
