Well, I finally did it, and it’s here.
Ever since I saw the white cue-ball style manual gearshift knob on the Bullit Mustang a number of years ago, I have wanted one for my S650. But I didn’t want a flimsy resin or aluminum version. I wanted something with heft. Something weighty, befitting the presence and stature of my pony.
After much searching, I settled on a Barton. One spherical pound of solid powder-coated brass. A work of metallurgical art, made to order.
It took me almost 2 years to pull the pin and place my order. Coming in at $230 Canadian, it’s a lot of coin for “just a knob”. I picked away at other cosmetic mods over the last couple of years, and having installed the last of my intended additions last month, I figured it was the appropriate time to add the crown jewel. A 25% spring sale discount was an added incentive to bite the Bullit (see what I did there?
).
I tracked its progress faithfully from Barton headquarters to local courier, to US Postal Service, through US customs (interminable), through Canadian customs, through Canada Post (excruciating) until it’s final arrival in my mailbox this afternoon at 1:10 PM.
By 1:12pm it was on my car.
Coming in at 3.3 times the weight of the stock knob, it definitely smooth out the throws, and on my car in particular, the little notch or nick I would feel between second and third.
It looks gorgeous. It feels beautiful. It shifts… like buttah.
And now you all know I have brass balls. Well, one anyway.
