Which supposedly helps bypass CARB for getting EO numbers for aftermarket parts. It would be interesting to see how this works out for us in California. Lets keep the politics out of this please. Interesting on what other forum members think if this will help getting aftermarket parts out to users.

The right to repair is validation of ownership

I partly agree. But who's overseeing the quality of repair? I've seen some horrors up close and online that makes me shudder to think they're on our roads.
Like the muppet who replaced leaking hub seals on his car trailer, but didn't clean the grease off the brakes.

this is aimed more at the small town independent mechanic shops, it really helps the enthusiast market, obviously, but also helps the common man from only having the stealership as a repair option.

I do realise that, but how do you control DIY stuff? It'd be really hard to find a balance between the freedom to work on your car and the safety of others.
Especially on modern cars which are like spaceships compared to pre 90's cars.

you should see the massive number of vehicles on the road in the US that should NOT be on the road in the US.

Reminds me of my favorite quote..

I think a good understanding of history enables people from any nation to appreciate many aspects of many countries.
In our country that is now absent. Kids are taught a revisionist history of their nation. That's lies to you and me.

He issued a memo, not even an executive order which in effect does very little.

Trump's memo called on Zeldin to provide guidance within a month on what could be done to dispel the "regulatory uncertainty concerning whether aftermarket parts may be used in repairs" under the Clean Air Act and speed up the approval of aftermarket parts, which independent shops and owners often choose to use on their vehicles to modify them or reduce costs of repairs. It appeared, however, that the directive applied only to parts specifically linked to emissions systems and Clean Air Act enforcement.

Never mind the drivel about people getting arrested for repairing their own vehicle!

The White House did not respond to our request for backup, but Trump appears to be referring to his Nov. 7 pardon of Troy Lake, a Wyoming diesel mechanic who served seven months of a one-year sentence — not seven years — after pleading guilty to violating the Clean Air Act by disabling emissions monitoring systems on hundreds of heavy-duty commercial trucks. (No other pardon in Trump’s second term fits the description.)
