Yeah they're faster but I'd rather have a manual to do tricks with and for the most control. To me all you can do with an automatic that's fun is speed. I rented a 911 with the PDK and in sport plus mode it was kind of fun and you could downshift and pop the factory catback exhaust but still.
I would argue that transmissions are about being able to control your car by ensuring you are in the power band as you are wanting to put the foot down…or using the engine as a brake down long steep hills, etc. for thing like parlor tricks of making an engine crackle…that’s going to be the engine. I test drove a 2022 b,w 550i that I was a hair’s width away from pulling the trigger on…and that thing would crackle and pop just taking your foot off the accelerometer suddenly.
I get it, people who like manuals have “reasons” they do, but in the end, it’s about controlling the car and I can do that just as well, if not better, in a modern manumatic.

if they offer a manual, great!, but manuals are not the king (my opinion only) of the transmissions like they were. It’s a recent transition and people have decades of when the manual was top of the heap, but the last 5-15 years (depending on the car) have changed things up. DCT is the new king, and automatic has nudged the manual aside. however, if that’s what you want, I hope it is offered, because options are always nice to have So long as that’s option doesn’t preclude them offering better options, like better performing more powerful/more reliable motors.

GM blew it. The 6th gen had a better chassis and a better manual transmission than the Mustang, but the styling was bad and it was way less practical (poor visibility, trunk space, etc.). The V8 was rather boring compared to the Coyote, too.
I wouldn't say the styling on the 6th gen Camaro was bad. The 5th gen Camaro was one of the better looking muscle cars, and the 6th gen just felt like that with maybe a touch of Corvette influence. I'd say the bigger issue was the fact that it wasn't a big enough departure from the 5th gen.

I'm a massive design head, and I remember the first time walking up to a 6th gen Camaro at an auto show, and even from like 50 ft away looking at it from a rear 3/4s angle I couldn't tell if it was the new gen or not.
That's kinda the same issue the s650 has, but it's not as severe as the Camaro.

I agree "bad" wasn't a good choice of words. "Dated" would have been better. Also, I think the styling (based on late 60s Camaros from the "muscle car" era) didn't fit the sports car driving dynamics of the 6th gen. In contrast, the styling changes of the S550 vs the S197 went hand in hand with ditching the live axle and creating a better handling Mustang.

That picture isn't from Chevrolet. It's just one of many pictures that people have dreamed up.
It was from the C&D article... just thought it was a bit fugly.

These are official design sketches directly from GM on their design Instagram account. These could hint at the sort of direction they're going in. I actually kinda like these, especially that red rear end sketch.

Regardless of what it ends up looking like, do you really want to deal with a manufacturer who is handling the 6.2 grenading issue so horribly?

...

But if they came out with something that was MKV Supra-sized....that wouldn't be bad at all
Though they couldn't really call it a Camaro... maybe a Cavalier... or a Vega! 🤣

Kind of reminds me of the Viper GTS rear end...

You never know if people are telling the truth or not, but on mustang 6g back in the day, there was a guy who claimed to be a Ford insider who was talking about how after the 6th Gen Camaro first came out, Ford experimented with the idea of a 2 seater mk 5 supra sized mustang, but it didn't get very far in development.

Who knows if that's true, but I wouldn't mind seeing a smaller mustang and camaro, maybe as an extension of the mustang sub brand. I just worry a smaller mustang would lose a lot of the visual impact and beefiness you get with a larger car.

I thought they'd issued multiple recalls to address this, is it still happening?

It would be nice if only the Ecoboost Mustang was smaller and lighter, but Ford would never do that.

There was a GM tech at the car show yesterday who said yep and the recommendation for thicker oil isn't doing squat. I read the NHTSA is about to get involved.
