So according to Ford Racing chief Mark Rushbrook Ford will show or tease a new car and describes it as “a testament to how deeply we’re integrating our racing innovation into the vehicles you drive every day”.

The article is pretty vague but I would assume that a GT500 successor is most likely being teased on January 15th.

They also talk about a 1000hp Ranger Raptor, a beefed up GTD and speculate about a ZR1 competitor but I would take most of it with a grain of salt.

We should however, see more GT500 successors on the road in the near future as it's most likely going to be a MY27 car.

If as widely speculated this comes with DCT only, then I hope Ford also has another variant planned. One that is not only fast, but is FUN and unique. One that doesn’t sacrifice full driver involvement for every last thousandth on the drag strip or track. Give us the ultimate street car.

I would love to see a Centri boosted factory Mustang with a 6 speed tremec option. Unique front fascia and hood, the glass quarter window louvers from the 50th anniversary edition and an electrochromic glass roof. An integrated duckbill style spoiler would be dope too.

Would it be the fastest thing ever loaded up like this? Nope. But it sure would be a fun and unique driving experience unlike anything else in its class.
Need to spice up the formula a little

It's hard to say, as a gt 500 wouldn't be "all new" necessarily as it would still be s650 based and likely repurposing existing mustang performance components. That could be it but the articles almost seem to imply it's this standalone model, but we'll see.

There are rumors this could be a next gen GT. Now that's basically a best case scenario so don't get your hopes up, but before anyone scoffs at that idea, keep in mind the last gen GT came out of nowhere with no build up, or warning. So it wouldn't be unusual for Ford to just reveal a next gen GT out of nowhere pretty much. I've said a new gt that takes some mild styling inspiration from Ford's upcoming le mans prototype would be kinda cool, maybe paired with a performance hybrid system to tie into their hybrid F1 powertrains.

That's the longest of shots, but it's a fun dream. I don't know where people are getting the 1,000 hp ranger idea from. Because their CEO said he wants to do a 1,000 hp off-road supercar that he said wouldn't be a truck or bronco. If that's what it is, I think there's a good chance we see an RS 200 revival, especially considering Ford's own designers created an RS 200 concept and Ford trademarked the name last year.

Who knows, it probably will just be a gt 500 which would be a let down, but time will tell.

I still think it’ll be inspired by the T1+

It is a 2 door, 2 seater, front mid engined car I believe…. which is still a recipe for an off road “super” car. It’s also just a tube frame rally car, so maybe creating some unibody version isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

But a RS200 would be awesome

I predict the people that are not gonna buy it will complain… a bunch

Probably about weight, then same old powertrain, then looks, oh and cost, and then dealership ADMs

Think $140k, heavier GT500 … probably something like that

Bear in mind that Tremec recently announced that they developed a 6 speed to fit in the C8 Corvette that can handle upper power limits just shy of that which the ZR1 makes, and that it fits.

The GTD uses the same DCT as the C8. If the DCT is going to be a carryover, it stands to reasonably guess and hope that said 6 speed could also make its way to the GT500 successor.

Yeah, it's hard to say, one minute it sounds more like a proper supercar, and the next it sounds like an SUV with supercar levels of power. All we know is their CEO said it's not a truck, or a bronco, but its own stand alone supercar model not based on an existing car.

I'm really hoping for something closer to an RS 200 or off-road gt instead of some fastback styling performance SUV, but time will tell. If anyone is curious about the RS 200 concept I referenced in a previous post, this is what it looks like.
Give it realistic windows and doors and you get a better idea.

S650 Mustang Ford to reveal all-new road-going race car on January 15... GT500 successor?! Ford-RS2.00-concept-00024-768x432 (1)

It may just be a coincidence, but January 15th is the debut date of the new Red Bull and Racing Bulls F1 cars, and of course, Red Bull and Ford now have a partnership for F1 power units.

Something like this would not be a coincidence I don't think. Their whole aim is to promote their new Ford Racing brand. This is a 2 Birds 1 Stone situation.

I'm excited! I'm sure Ford will do something that most people on this site can't afford.
That's why I'm nowhere near excited as I was with the old GT500... Back then I didn't have the money to buy one, now I could afford one but it will be priced into oblivion... Easily $98K starting price before ADMs and other stuff... Real price probably closer to $150K ... For an upgraded Mustang...

Did anything ever surface about the 'Legend' engine?
Other than it's going to be a 5.2L engine (and most likely an updated Predator that simply got a new name and maybe some minor modification)? Not to my knowledge but think about the 'new' Coyote engine in the S650 vs the the Coyote in the S550... I wouldn't expect anything else besides more HP.
