I was told by Whipple to turn off automatic online updates, which I did to pre ent Ford’s updates from overwriting my tune.

However, I noticed my gauge colors reset.
One, can Ford bypass the setting for automatic updates? Two, are there any other reasons the gauge colors reset, other than an update? Three, is there any other setting available to prevent or pend the updates?

I’m going to check the log to see what loaded but I’m interesting in your experience. Are people reloading their tunes multiple times due to Ford updates? Hopefully, I’m missing something.

I’m not paranoid about them tracking me, well it’s annoying but as others commented, it’s a fact of life. I’m wondering if I’ll be reloading my tune file weekly.

The prior posts I’ve read say we confirm PCM downloads which is helpful bc then we know to reload the tune. A vendor said OTA updates don’t overwrite tunes but Whipple told me the opposite.

You can disable them

I disabled automatic OTA loads but still see my gauges reset to ugly amber.

I'd be mindful of using the user presets on the door. I mistakenly thought I got an update, but I just used preset 3, which didn't have my updated colors, like on preset 1.

I didn’t know it set our color preferences! That’s great to know. Thanks.

......if you disable corporate up-dates to your vehicle you have just suicided your warranty, if you have one.

Only PCM updates will wipe the tune, and if you get sent an OTA for the PCM, it will 100% wipe the tune. The tuner would need to send you an update tune with the new strategy. Depending on your tuner, this may or may not be a big deal and there may or may not be a cost associated with it.

If you have the tuner, you can just reflash the tune after the OTA as an easy fix, but the correct way to do it would be to have the tuner send you an updated tune.

Right. I think the tuner will only integrate ford’s updates into a new tune file when something substantial is updated (that impacts car function, warranty, etc). At some point, they’ll need to update for 2026 model year changes, right?

After the last OTA update, I just re-flashed my tune and all is well. I can't imagine tuners are going to keep giving out free tunes every time ford does an update and the owners feel like they need a new tune. I can see this getting annoying for all parties involved (except for ford) lol

True. That’s why they’d only update their tune for a major Ford update impacting safety, performance, reliability. I don’t have enough experience to know whether Ford pends their updates until they’re substantial or sends whatever small item they change, although I can make an educated guess.

Again, depends on your tuner. I am tuned with Livernois, and they send me updated tunes at no charge anytime a PCM update comes out. However, not all tuners will provide this service.

In my case, I do my own updates with FDRS. So when Ford does release a new PCM update, I reach out to Livernois to see if they have that strategy on file yet and if they don't, I will send them the strategy file and I won't update the PCM until they send me the new tune so I can flash it right away.

Livernois has top notch customer service. There will always be opinions on who makes the best tune in terms of performance or what not. However, when it comes to customer service, they are exceptionally good.
