Just wanted to share my unfortunate experience with a rock coming off a passing semitruck and striking what I thought was the glass but turned out to be the front of my hood right on the peak. It went through PPF, paint, and primer right into the aluminum. But the worst is the nice dent it also left for me. Such a real bummer. Going to see if my PDR guy can get the dent out, but it is double walled across that area, so I am not to hopeful. Thanks for letting me vent.

Yeah, I hope the PDR can lessen the dent for now and then I may just get a custom center hood decal kind of similar to the dark horse to cover the scratch and wait to have it painted until i get a few more chips in the hood since I do drive it and live 10 miles highway to the nearest town.

That sucks bad but life will go on. There are dump trucks running all over the place here in paradise too. Best of luck on the repair. Keep us posted.

You can make that disappear yourself with some touch-up paint. Lots of videos on the subject.

F**K. Not the Grabber Blue! That one hurts me. I've never seen a rock go through PPF, paint, and primer like that, and leave a dent too! I have to wonder if it was some other object.

Unfortunately, the PPF has to come off in order to repair the dent and chip. My guess is the dent can be pulled easily. But the Grabber Blue might be a little harder to do chip repair on. Then you have to put the PPF back on. Sucks.

Could have been worse I guess. Let us know what you end up doing.

Yeah, it's the one time I wish it would have hit the windshield. I will let you guys know how it goes. Going to reach out to PDR tomorrow and see when he can take a look at it.

Honestly if that rock did that damage to your hood it would have spider webbed your windshield. These windshields are very expensive especially since you have to recalibrate the radar. That dent should be a problem to be pulled out. Touch up paint will make it less noticeable. I didnt bother with ppf. I had it before on a wrx sti, but had similar issues where a truck sprayed me with rocks that cut right through the ppf on the bumper.

Yeah, the PPF was just a kit I installed myself so there was not a ton of money in that. I do collision work on the side, and I can get the OEM Ford windshield my cost installed for around 850. And my windshield already has a bunch of road damage, like it had been lightly sand blasted, so that would have been the perfect win win since I can't justify a new windshield on that alone. I can even repair and paint the hood myself, but I absolutely hate painting over factory paint especially on a car I do not intend to get rid of. Would be different if I was just going to sell in a few years. Only factory paint once. I am waiting to hear back from the PDR guy; I sent him a message with pics included.

Perfect opportunity to grab a supersnake style carbon hood?

i had good results with this. guy down the road slung a piece of gravel at my driver door while bush hogging his yard.🤦 no dent though. base clear kit. best to dispense color onto non porous clean surface, use toothpick or fine point to dab in color(leaving geometry for clear to cover). Then give it time and go back every 15 minutes with a foam brush of clear. i just sanded and polished out yesterday. only I know its there now. sorry for your misfortune. mine was my first "oh shit" and i didn't do it either.
