I never use pressure washer over 1700 psi mine is perfect to knock off the dirt and dust and foam with my cannon.

at this point in my career, I am a firm believer in a good PDR person over a traditional repair

If the PDR guy can't get the dent out, then your other option is traditional body work

If you spend enough time around PDR guys, it is amazing whet they can do.

I have had to handle claims on hail damaged cars, where the roofs were FUBAR'd and the PDR guys got it back to pre loss condition with no trace of damage.

I would never use a pressure washer on any kind of car. That said, with no pics, I would use a PDR. Good luck!

Ditto! Never understood the urge to pressure wash (other than commercial vehicles, mud trucks and the like). I use my garden hose with the nozzle set to the shower setting. Lots of water; very little pressure. I have been thinking about trying the foam cannon technique lately though.

I've pressure washed my cars and bikes for many years, but I use the lowest setting, keep a safe distance from the surface and I don't spray sensors, joints in lights etc.
I've just bought a Makita handheld battery pressure washer which is somewhere between my Karcher and the hose in pressure. It's only failing is poor foaming.

I have used a low pressure psi pressure washer for years it does a great job at knocking off the contaminants before using a foam cannon, The MTM Hydro foam cannon works very well :)

If you have your pressure washer set up properly, its not about the actual pressure, but rather the pumps ability to increase the flow rate and improve rinse efficiency. The problem is, the pressure washer manufacturers like to promote headline pressure ratings on the box. To achieve that number, they make the nozzle orifice smaller, which then reduces the pumps ability to flow properly. If left like that, well, a garden hose is much more effective. Open up the orifice, which will decrease the pressure, but increase the flow.

It's important to note that if your pressure washer has a dial to increase/decrease the pressure output, on the low setting, all that does is further lean out the flow rate, so again a garden hose will be more effective. Instead, choose the correct nozzle orifice, aiming for 1000 - 1400 psi and as close to 2.0 to 2.6 GPM as possible. For example, I have my unit tuned to 1500 psi and 2.64 GPM, in fact I can hold my hand in front of the jet stream and not having it hurt my hand. If that can't rip into my skin, then its going to be absolutely fine on your paint.

You aren't the first and wont be the last. Never ever use a pressure washer with a detachable nozzle to wash your car. You unfortunately just learned why.

I did the same thing with a pressure washer on my previous F-150. Put a ding in the top of the left fender. A local guy who does paintless dent repair fixed it in about a half hour. Couldn't tell it was ever damaged when he was finished. Charged me $100.
