I have a serious question for you Mustang owners. How careful do I truly need to be? I mean, besides not flooring it when you pull out and turn or are around corners, etc....is this thing going to be unstable?

I want to find and take a driving course, but I read SO MUCH about people planting their Stangs into walls....Makes me a bit nervous. I've had rear wheel drive before in a Charger and earlier a Chrysler Crossfire.
Its as unstable as any other RWD car. Step on it, and it will spin the wheels. If you don't control it correctly, you'll end up in a wall, simple as.

If you're trying to keep the wheels spinning through the gears, then you're more likely to put it in a wall. Auto's are more susceptible to this, since they can shift while the wheels are still spinning, causing the rears to gain traction and then plant you into a wall. Thats where most mustang crash videos come from.

Mustangs have come a long way, the IRS is actually pretty decent in these. Just don't be dumb and get yourself into situations you will regret.

I expect this car to be much more stable than my 06 GT. This car has fatter tires, wider stance, and IRS.

My 06 had Live axle and a 40 lb Shaker System subwoofer box placed all the way in the back behind the rear wheel. Put a 40 lbs bag of cement behind your rear wheel and see how tail-happy your car gets. I removed it early on and handling improved greatly.

As with all my rear drive cars, I learned, don’t mash the pedal going into a turn. Get your turn done first, then accelerate in a controlled rate. I’m still breaking in so I have yet to really get on it, and if I do it will be with caution until I really get to know this car. Even then, I have to respect near 500 hp.

It is 99° F as I write this. Had lunch with a friend. On the way back, even light throttle applications caused a real ruckus in the tire department. Making matters worse, a mile or so of my trip was over glassphalt, which is even worse when it's wet. I've always wondered who thought glass would be better than crushed rock?

I wasn't even aware this is a thing. I know they use some sort of glass compound for the reflector stripes, but its news to me they incorporate it into the tarmac.

Wait, everyone says if you put a couple 40lb sandbags in your trunk you will get through the snow like a 4WD truck

I just have an EB with the PP and the 3.55 gears, and the first time I floored it on a corner from a start and turning I almost lost it. I wasn't expecting that kind of spin at all and traction control was on and I was in performance mode.

So I do believe all of you guys that are saying that you can easily get it in a wall with 5.0. These car need to be respected big time.

PS my EB is a 2024 so I was lucky enough to get all the trims.

I am 65 yo and all my car when I was younger were all RWD and yes putting about 50lbs in the trunk as close as possible to the bumper will help a lot in snow, especially to get out of some kind of snow pile or just for regular driving as you put more weight on your rear tires. But it will never, and I mean, never act like a 4wd TRUCK. I don't know where you heard that but don't believe it. There was also a kit you could buy for Camaro, Trans-Am and firebird that would move your batterie in the trunk totally in the rear to help for weight distribution but also for winter driving.

Also why would you want to use your tang in winter, with the salt, brime etc. you will ruin this car faster then you would like to. But if you still want to use it in winter, can I suggest to get a good anti-rust protection done by professional with a very good reputation on them and on the product they put.

And last but not least. I live in Quebec city and trust me we get a fair share of snow from November to end of April even May. Having a snow storm with 1 or even 2 feet of snow is not unusual as a matter of fact it's pretty common and getting temperature in the -20C is also the norm.

So please DO NOT get all season tires, they are no good under 7C. Get real winter tires. And no it doesn't cost that much more as you will keep both set well into 6 or 7 years. Plus you can get really good winter tires and really good performance tires instead of a compromise between the the 2. As a matter of fact winter tires are mandatory in the province of Quebec from December 1 to March 15 inclusive. This advice of course depends on how much snow you get and how cold it goes.

I think it's fair to say that any car with this kind of power had better be respected and driven smartly. Mustangs are insanely powerful, especially when you compare to past decades. People talk about those cars in the 60's and 70's that were powerful, but most all of those are much less than the current day Mustangs are when it comes to power.

I'm glad to see a resurgence of focus on power with cars like the Mustang, Camaro and Charger/Challenger and was sad to see them almost disappear. Fortunately, regulation status has changed so at least for the next few years we may seem some strong contenders! But bottom line, all those cars do have a TON of power and that power can easily allow a driver to get themselves into trouble big time. I think more very young and inexperienced drivers get their hands on these cars as well, due to their parents and that probably adds to the statistics when it comes to bad results. Regardless, what matters to ME is that a car like this was available when I could truly appreciate it, as well as afford it without it being a "dumb purchase." :)

Not trying to be "whatever" but I have a stock Honda Civic that will spin the front tires from a stand still and will handle pretty darn good around town for something with essentially no HP compared to my Mustang. I respect both. The car is one thing, other drivers opens up a whole new world. Just find a very big parking lot on a weekend and get to know one another. Watch for light poles, LOL!

Oh I agree. "Power" shouldn't be thought of in terms of spinning tires. As you say, get to know your car, ESPECIALLY if you may end up doing some of these things. I'm just glad to see the recent resurgence of higher power vehicles. Even in the electric market. I do think we'll all be electric at some point. Once they are fueled by hydrogen or something else instead of by huge, toxic, heavy batteries.

My last car would do 0 - 62mph in 4.7 secs and top out at 250kmh, but barely spun the tyres at all.
AWD 😁
