Once it hits the assembly line, it typically goes pretty fast from there. The major bottlenecks occur after placing the order with waiting for the VIN and production start dates. Special orders have to be squeezed into the production line which is already operating at capacity to keep lots stocked with cars for inventory. They need to make sure they have the parts for the options for the special order in place at the build stations when the car is ready to be built and that all of the different sections of the production line are ready to build to the special order specs. This is easier for some manufacturers than others. After the logistics are in line, a build date has been issued, and the car is built, the next significant portion is shipping. This can take anywhere from a couple of days to several months depending on how it's being shipped, where it's being shipped to, and the time of year that it is being shipped.Is it production or distribution that causes the delay? UK pricing for the base car has changed little when taking inflation and spec into account.
UK inflation since 2015 takes the old V8 GT price from £33k to £51k using the Bank of England inflation calculator. In that time our first registration VED has increased by £4300 taking that to £55,300 and the new car is £58400 here. There are considerable improvements in spec.
So in the UK the price in real terms is pretty competitive and certainly no greed on Ford's part.
Obviously it is US supply inflation that is actually the driving force for Ford prices which could well be higher.

Personally, Ford needs to revive SVT or revamp Ford Performance. There needs to be a performance-oriented group that focused on performance vehicles. Ford Performance just doesnāt have thatā¦credibility and clout like SVT. BMW has the M line. MB has the AMG line. Toyota has the GR line. Nissan has the Nismo line. Stellantis is bringing back SRT (CARB and EPA killed off SRT). And GM had nothingā¦which killed the Camaro.
Also, I donāt want a woman designing my performance Mustangs (like the Dark Horse, and I donāt care if your dogās name is Shelby). Males and females excel at specific roles. Most of the performance Mustang buyers are males.
Specifically, Ford needs to target a 3,500 - 3,600 lbs Mustang thatās around $45K - $60K. No silly, cheap screens like the S650. No gimmicks. Just one screen for the infotainment, traditional buttons. Work with the tariffs achieve this price bracket. Let the buyers modify the Mustang as they please, as well, no more locking ECUs stuff. And work with aftermarket companies, learn from them and listen to them.
And why isnāt there some department or group at Ford working to push Coyote swaps into older cars? Thatās a growing segment. Facilitate the obtaining of parts for these Coyote swaps. This all works in favor of growing the Ford and Mustang brand.
Finally, market the car! When John Wick showed up with an older Mustang, why didnāt Ford lock that franchise to always feature a Mustang? Instead, Dodge sweeps in and takes Fordās lunch by featuring a new Charger. Just look at the Fast and Furious franchise, Dodge locked in Dominic driving a Mopar of some sort in all the movies. The MKV Supra was a relatively regular car until it was featured in the Fast and Furious movie. Now people are buying these Supras and restoring them for crazy prices. Thatās the power of marketing.
