I’ve been investigating this phenomenon which occurs primarily with Mustangs’
aftermarket catback exhaust with the quad tips. This phenomenon is a strange one, majority of the Mustang I’ve investigated seems to have this drooping like quad tips, it’s either one side or both. However I’ve not yet to conclude what cause this phenomenon, everything seemed in order. Strange, investigation continues………

Sounds like an EXHAUSTing problem to have. At least the tips aren't pointed up, that might lead to even worse problems for all involved...😈

There are a few factors at play regarding misaligned quad exhaust tips.

1. This condition does exist to some extent on OEM quad tips (even duals). More rare on OEM but it does happen.
2. Aftermarket exhausts tolerances contribute to the issue. Even the best.
3. You have to be willing to go above and beyond basic installation when installing an aftermarket exhaust.
4. Going above and beyond requires installing and removing to make adjustments to the hanger specifically the hangers on the mufflers. This applies to DIY and exhaust shops. The use of the word manipulate in my case = carefully bending the hangers.

I installed a Ford Performance 5" quad tip exhaust on my Mustang GT along with the Dark Horse rear valance and rear undertray that works in tandem with the DH valance. I had to remove the mufflers and manipulate the hangers, twist the exhaust etc. to meet my OCD alignment standards. Another key to success is the correct torque on the exhaust clamps. I would guess most people do not use a torque wrench (I do).

Removing an OEM exhaust and merely installing aftermarket without some tweaking and manipulating, twisting etc. in most cases just won't cut it.

My exhaust has not moved or become misaligned since installation and tweaking was completed.

Nothing bothers me more than being behind someone with misaligned exhaust tips on their vehicle. I want to get out and fix it for them. Yes, it bothers me that much.

It's because the pipes are one piece from the resonator back with just clamps holding it together. The weight of the mufflers and tips with just a single hanger is very heavy, so when you do a midpipe and loosen the clamps, the weight from the mufflers rotates the the entire pipe outward because the hangers arent centered, which in turn makes the quad tips droop on the outside. The trick is having someone hold the muffler level when you secure the clamps again.

Even if you dont do a mid pipe, heat and vibration can loosen the clamps and cause sagging. My shop used a jack to level out the mufflers and the put some spot welds around the clamps so it would stay in place. This was a very common problem on the S550s with quad exhaust.
