Just the fact that Royal Purple puts a dye in their oil to market it seems pretty cheesy to me. People just use what oil they want for their own reasons. Read the Ford manual and it has your answer. A LOT of oils meet their requirements so any name brand synthetic will be good enough.

If you have good confidence in your dealer, use them if you want to pay their prices or change the oil yourself and keep good documentation. Not a hard decision.

But if you want to spend there extra $$$ for full Syn, just do it. Just make sure the dealer shows you the containers it came from.
Containers? Service stations buy 50 gallon drums. They pump with hydraulic guns.

@larietrope if one or both of your dealerships (assuming they are Ford) offer Fastlane Service; you might wish to check with them and see if they care if you bring in your own oil and filter. Mine is fine with that.

When I had my Focus RS (traded in on my GT) it used a NOT common(5w-50?) viscosity of full synthetic rated N, N + P; so I had my dealer do changes for me. They charged me $25/qt for that stuff. So beware if you want to upgrade to full synth at a Ford dealer.

Back to the Fastlane thing..............................took in 10 qts 5w-30 Mobil One and a Purolator 2K full synth filter for my GT...................charged me $34 for labor [made them swear to NOT touch anything else on the car! 😆].

Good luck!

Which is why I took my own oil to the dealer I had do my first oil change. I told them I wanted my 5 quart containers back as I use them to dispose of oil from other places.

I stood there and watched the tech do a great job of changing my oil and filter. Didn't bother him or the dealer. They had a good attitude about it. That's part of the reason I bought my car from them too. A very rare situation indeed. I hope they stay that way.

Thanks, I know that. But not every dealer uses enough full syn to warrant a drum. I’ve seen them use containers. But you can also ask to see the drum. :giggle:
