My GT is coming up on 1000 miles. I will do my own oil change around that time. I plan on using either Pennzoil Ultra Platinum full synthetic or some kind of Mobil 1 synthetic. Probably the Pennzoil since that's I've used for years with no problems in both my personal vehicles and several of the vehicles my company owns.

Of course my dealer wants to use Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic I think because it's cheap.

Any constructive comments on the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, which is my preference, and going straight to full synthetic from the factory fill of semi-synthetic would be appreciated. Yes, I know, I know, I did a search. This is 2025 though.

I went straight from factory fill to PUP. I run oil analysis at each change. The engine is healthy.

From Blackstone's comments and my own experience, it takes two to three oil changes to see all the characteristics of the new oil. That's not a good thing or a bad thing. It's just a thing. And normal.

While you can occasionally change oils over the life of any vehicle, I think it's best to stick with one as consistently as possible. PUP, 5W30 would be a fine oil to go with. If you later change your mind, yes, change to the other one. It's best to avoid regularly changing brands and weights, as you end up with a mix of oils and their properties.

I use one from J&L. Others prefer the one from Ford Performance. Either would be fine. It's a personal preference what one chooses. There may be other manufacturers out there that are just as good.

Using one at all is also a preference. Millions of Fords are operating well into high mileage without one. I'm using one because I didn't like the idea of the oil filming the intake. But also because it gives me something of a window into the engine.

I use the J&l catch cans because they have one that fit's the Whippled engine it has a check valve it keep's oil out of the blower.

@Frogdog1 ....... when tearing down engines and dyno-ing engines we found that most FULL synthetic oils are very good. Oil analysis backed this up. Some thoughts for you: 1 - use a FULL synthetic. 2 - change the oil when it is as hot as you can stand it. 3 - pre fill the oil filter and lightly lubricate the oil filter's gasket.....and my personal mantra is - it is far better to change the oil more frequently with a good FULL synthetic than to change it less frequently with the highest rated brands. My personal favourite is Ford Motorcraft. Motorcraft was one of the few oils that retained its viscosity rating after a number of very hot runs.

There is no reason to not use full synthetic outside of cost. All lab test show its better at resisting viscosity breakdown.

Many have reported that PUP helps quiet Coyote tick. That wasn't my experience, but its a very good oil. So is Mobil 1. I've used both in all my Coyotes.

Don't go down the rabbit hole too far on the oil thing. I'm sure even the Motorcraft full synthetic is just fine. The most import thing is changing it regularly and using a good filter.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure Ford recommends NOT lubricating the filter. I know that's counter intuitive and will probably start another debate here (not my intent). Just letting you know.

Sounds like a stealership. Full synthetic is way to go, early and often as other posters mention, with a good filter besides. I have used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for years, and has never let me down once. I used Royal Purple for a while, and realized they're Nikes: $100 for the shoes, $100 for the label; PUP is just the shoes, no fuss.

I've got 10 quarts of PUP on the shelf with a K&N filter just waiting for my new S650 to hit 1000; she's at 636 miles as of today. It's kind of like their first birthday party at our house, 1,000 miles and we change out your break-in oil. They hit 100,000 miles so fast... sniff...

@AZ_Ryan ...... you are correct - Ford does not recommend lubricating the oil filter gasket. When I asked my Mustang tech why, he said Ford explained that they were worried the oil filters would loosen under vibration if the gaskets were lubricated. All the techs apply oil as they said they had never seen one loosen and leak and getting one off without lubing the gasket was often a huge task.
