Not too happy with my 24 GT A10 so far (1100 miles). Lots of gear hunting. Probably not transmission related, but also having problems with an intermittent subwoofer-type sound, and I've removed the subwoofer. Starting to wish I had my 2017 back.

I remember when the Camaro ZL1 came with their 10L90, the magazines said it shifted faster than the McLaren's DCT... yet Ford's 10R80 at the time had so many complaints about bad shifting.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've got about 5,600 miles on my 24 GT A10 and it has been flawless.

I agree on being hard to believe this is the exact same transmission mechanically. It seems if they have done this good on the programming for the S650, then they would offer it as an update for the S550. I guess maybe they will in the future offer an update for the S550 with the newer programming. I really liked the way my S550 drove overall, but I absolutely love the way the S650 drives.
They want you to buy the 650 so probably won’t make improvements to the 550 there’s nothing to gain for them

I agree. The 10R80 in my S650 is absolutely waaaay better than my S550. The way it shifts in Sport M is amazing, especially when WOT! Also the downshifts and the way that H pipe sounds is freaking addictive.

So having owned these mustangs over the years, (in order of ownership years)

1. a 1971 Mustang Sleeper (in year 1972) 351 Cleveland, with peanut plugs, 4 barrel carb, 4 speed manual,
2. 2018 GT, Premuim, 6 speed manual
3. 2019 GT Premium, PP, A10 with a Roush SC,
4. 2020 Shelby 350,
5. 2021 GT500,
6. 2021 Mach 1 A10 HP,
7. 2022 Mach 1 A10 HP,
8. now my S650 Premium, A10, PP, MagRide.

My favorites: Shelby GT 500, Shelby 350, and running close to and right with those two the 24 GT is pound for pound prolly for “the money spent” the best bang for the buck, hands down.

Least favorite, the 2018 the getrag was a rag, and the 2019 the Roush just didn’t deliver. Favorite color - WHITE 👍🏻

Has anyone had transmission whine from their 10R80? Ford has a TSB on the issue and claims it is the straight cut gears on the transmission fluid pump. Mine whines a bit until I hit about 20-25 mph, after that I can't hear it. BTW the S650 transmission shifts amazingly imo.

I haven’t noticed any whine with mine.

My S550 A10 has always had a whine in first gear (sounds like a noisy serpentine belt) since I have had it 6 years and 30k miles ago. Still going strong.

Yes, I hear a small whine not concerned and it’s only at very low speed in 1-2

Do you have any links or reference number for the Ford TSB on this issue? I've just posted in another thread about a whining noise which most people seem to believe is tranmission related.

As I reported earlier, when my 2024 GT was new, the A10 was surging on uphill grades in 10th gear. The problem went away after couple thousand miles. Now at 5000+ miles it's back. Liked the six speed in my 2017 GT much better.

So far I haven’t been impressed or unimpressed with it. The A10 in my SS shifted with more authority but hunted or clunked 2nd gear on occasion. Shift points and tuning were awesome and programming was amazing. So far the one in my S650 has exhibited similar behavior, but shifts a lot smoother. Downshifts seem slower or delayed. I do hear a whine at low speeds as I leave the neighborhood. Let’s see how she performs long term since this is a car I want to keep!

@Gray_3 ..... The noise could be said to be transmission related - in that it's the straight cut gears for the transmissions gear driven fluid pump. Apparently the Camaro (same transmission due to joint Ford/GM research) makes less noise as GM put some kind of sound dampening in place. I'm not at home right now so no access to my maintenance file hard copy but - I'll dig up the number when I get home in a day. There may be two TSBs . Your dealer should also be able to print one for you. Just to be safe I had the dealer listen to it and file a warranty note with Ford. I got him to print the invoice they charged Ford to have the tech look at it and they also printed the TSB number and Ford's reply. I filed the two sheets in my maintenance file "just in case". Ford has issued that reply, several times, for most if not all Ford vehicles with the 10R80 transmission. They were firm that this noise would was not the result of a defect and would not result in any loss of longevity or future issues. Added this as an edit: because I'm a bit (ha ha) ocd I took a video of the whine just in case there was a future dispute/claim but I really don't think there will be a problem as this sound has been coming from the tranny's on F150s and Lincolns for several years now. I wouldn't worry at all.

@asc709 ..... from a friend who races Mustangs, his opinion, fwiw, the 10R80 is an amazing transmission. Ford has changed the programming from earlier years for the 2024 S650 and that has made it far "crisper" (his words). He says it is a very fast shifting and very robust transmission. He did say the transmission should not hunt unless you are really on the pedal and rapidly changing elevation - such as as in curvy country roads going up and down with lots of throttle and braking. He says a bit of "gear hunting" in those circumstances is normal. If an owner feels there is abnormal "hunting" take the Mustang to a dealer you trust to have it re-programmed. I have watched TRC (That Facing Channel) discuss the Gen 4 5.0 Coyote and the 10R80 both of which the guys they interview love and yes you can build-up the 10R80 into a 1500+ HP handling beast. If you want to watch the video google 2000HP Mustang beats Lambos and watch the TRC video of RSA (Race Solutions America) and see "J" and the best Mustang builders in the USA at work = RSA and FFRE (Fast Forward Racing Engineering - winners of the 2023 best engine builder in the USA award) fun to watch if you have the time. Bottom line our 10R80s are very solid and our 4th gen Coyotes are truly amazing. S650 owners chose well.
