Those that have ordered their convertible, have you noticed that the performance pack is the same cost if you were to order a coupe?

Why are we paying the same price when we don't get that expensive spoiler?

I asked a Ford rep that question and they essentially said their marketing research shows that dealers and customers prefer it that way. I highly doubt that consumers are OK with paying the same price for less product..

Anyone have any thoughts as to why? Unless I'm missing something, I think it's kind of ridiculous.

This thread reminded me of one discussed before.

https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/threads/rear-spoiler-for-convertible.159990/

Practicality: there might be some brake light mounting issues.

Performance: it's very easy to disrupt airflow across any surface, in this case, causing it to "disconnect" from the car. Think of a really fine silk sheet being pulled across, your finger tip (a disruption), resting on the surface and messing that up. A coupe's roof is for the most part one, smooth piece. While up, a vert top is not near as uniform. And with the top down, it's difficult to see any air getting to the spoiler at all.

Aesthetics: it's up to the Owner. With the top down, I do think spoiler delete looks better. YMMV.

Price: it's my belief verts are generally more expensive than coupes. The cars have to be built differently, being able to support a rollover without the additional support of a full roof. While the cost of a spoiler might not seem like much, removing it saves something. There might be some subtle car or package differences elsewhere.

Edit,

Returning to the Price paragraph, the car also has to be strengthened, to prevent the addition chassis flex associated while going without a roof.

Style: when I'm thinking vert, I'm not thinking speed. While any performance is welcome, I'm more interested in comfortable touring, fresh air, an "open" experience, etc. YMMV.

I'll check out that discussion. In regards to the convertible being strengthened and such I thought we already eat that cost with the uncharge of it being a convertible.

Thanks for the info I'll look into that.

This is like going to McDonald’s and 2 people ordering combo meals… and 1 person says he got 117 French fries in his box and I only got 93 French fries….

You want the performance pack or not?

Nah. Convertibles are a niche product. Most track enthusiasts buy the coupes, meaning the whole cost of offering a vert is split over a fairly small number of customers each year.

Then they should not / would not buy a convertible. But they do.

More reason why I didn't order mine with the PP. Not only do you not get the PP spoiler you paid for, they also remove the factory blade spoiler whether you like it or not. If it was cheaper due to this, maybe. But as it stands I never considered the PP for a variety of reasons.

I got it for all of the other things the package includes. I'm not interested in adding those things myself. Plus, the tarnished aluminum wheels are only available with the pp.

Why not?

There's no substitute for the top-down driving experience. When the first cool air of Fall rolls down the Blue Ridge mountains, when you can hear the crunch of leaves on Tail of the Dragon - what's not to love?

The Performance Package and MagneRide are appreciable on those mountain drives. The upgraded components add stiffness to the vehicle, and predictability to everything from the differential lockup to the brake feel. The Brembo brakes are fantastic, easily on-par with the Porsche 911.

There's all kinds of "apples-to-oranges" comparisons we could make against coupes, but when we talk about verts, the Performance Package is a worthwhile upgrade.

I would usually tend to agree but it did not feel like a $7k upgrade to me, or $5500 because the Brembo upgrade i do like.

But to each their own and that is why i asked.

And 226A used to be one of my favorite runs.
