So if it were only inflation, it'd be 44 something thousand. Are you telling me that you wouldn't be on this forum talking about the price of it if it were 44 something thousand? I don't believe that for a second.
You say all this like you have inside knowledge of Ford's books. You don't know if they're losing a load of money or not on this vehicle and if they need to raise the cost or not. Or if they're using this money to invest in the next model.
? What does that have to do with the argument at hand? Do you think the consumer cares about the business? They only care about their own money. Look what happened when the JDMs came into America and took over. You think people care about brand loyalty? 99% of people will take the cheaper option every time, so you said something right in one of your comments there: people will choose a cheaper car. But you also inadvertently proved me and Dragsters points: the Mustang will die if ford goes down this shady road of price increases. The consumer has the power at the end of the day, not the business. And I don’t think anyone here wants the Mustang to die, but you’re sitting here like oh poor Ford, we need to keep buying the Mustang no matter what. That’s why I said if the Mustang was 200k you would still buy it. You are one of the few people who care about brand loyalty, and that’s good for you. I don’t care how a business is run, all I care about is how a consumer thinks and how they spend their money.
Believe it or not, if it kept parity with inflation across all packages and price. I.e if I spec the exact same car and didn’t get a 10% increase in price and only got 3%, I would not be complaining at all. But for all builds, you’re seeing a much higher than 3% increase. It’s a couple hundred dollars for you but to many people (majority of people in the US), that’s the difference between them getting a Mustang vs getting a cheaper car.
Of course Ford cares about the books. That's what a business is lol If the mustang doesn't make money, then it will die off. Ford isn't going to take a loss on it, so you have no idea if they need to raise the price or keep it the same. Neither do I. But I know inflation is incredibly high. Add in the new auto union deal and bam, you have a price raise.
This is getting too political, but I’m pro union. If it means people getting paid for their work, I’m all for it. Still doesn’t mean I’m happy about ford price increasing though. If your argument is that this is a direct result of that, then I will counter that ford themselves should be planning their business better. If you can’t afford to pay your workers a living wage while maintaining a good business, you don’t deserve to be in business. Tough to hear, but if that means the death of the Mustang, then so be it. I’d rather have the workers get their worth and living wage rather than have a sports car. That was the easiest answer to a question that I ever had to answer. I’m not willing to throw away my morals for a car I like. I’m not 10 years old.

GM is subject to the same union deals as Ford, yet the well equipped Corvette I priced out only increased 3.6% versus the GT I built increasing over 7%. I get that Ford has to stay profitable--and maybe they NEED to increase the prices for the GT this much--but if it causes the customers to look elsewhere, then it defeats the purpose.
Again, the price increase on the base car is 5%. But how do you explain an almost 10+% increase in price if you spec it out with packages? People say 4-5k increase for same specs. That’s around 10%. Unless ford was expecting a 10% increase in inflation, that is absurd. Even 5% increase in price is too much to plan out for.
And the consumer will vote with their wallet. You already see the reaction of Mustang fans reacting to this. You can see on other social media the reaction. It’s not good for the consumer, and they will go for a cheaper option. Again, if this means the Mustang will die, then I’m totally fine with that lol I get that ford is raising it so they can keep it profitable, but it’s bad for the consumer at the end of the day. I’m not gonna defend a company over a consumer. If you are all about business, then that’s good for you. Like I said in another comment, I hope ford gives you the chance at the GTD or maybe even give it to you for free with how hard you’re defending them. I truly hope so, but something tells me that’s not gonna be the case.
