On my 15 Mustang X Plan was $89 over the invoice price. What you pay over invoice is a function of the invoice price because the price is calculated as a percentage below invoice plus a fixed fee service charge. You also save another $250 or so with X Plan because it limits the documentation fees to $100.

You can certainly do better but X Plan is a very good and fair price.

What else can be used with X-plan pricing? New graduate $500 (since I am done with my MBA). Anything else?

Local dealer is willing to work with X-plan pricing, but since 2017 order banks aren't open yet, I wanted to ask everyone if I can ask for other discounts.

Dealership info

I ordered a 2015 GT PP in January 2015 and took delivery in early March 2015. I used the X-plan price as the starting point for negotiations. I emailed my requirements to about eight dealers in the Seattle area and told them I was looking for a price better than X-plan. One dealer came back with a price that was about $1200 below invoice, so I think I did pretty well. It was super easy to work with the dealer I selected. I know there have been others on the forum that got similar deals. Good luck!

I happen to be in the Seattle area myself. Hoping to purchase a 17 GT very soon. Would you mind providing the name of the dealership you went with?

X-plan can be used with the current cash back incentives ($750 as of today), plus private cash offer ($750 if you have it, order a brochure and you'll get it), College rebate ($500)... Probably others, but that makes a pretty darn good deal. Basically, $2000 below invoice without negotiating.

Been lurking for a while now... as Im slowly beginning to shop for a base GT.

Maybe Im missing something, but if I do an autotrader search, there are about a dozen 2016 base GT's all over the country LISTED for 2K under invoice... or lower?

Am I assuming that Xplan would get me a better deal?

I see quite a few 2016 GT's for around 28.5K. The lowest being 26.8k at koons.

$700 shipping to CA on top of that price, and I pay my tax locally. All without any further negotiations... if I buy the car on the spot.

So whats the benefit of the Xplan?

Maybe Im missing something here?

Dealer pricing is post all incentives. x-plan price is before all incentives are applied. So you subtract from the x-plan price all the incentives that you are eligible for. So in my zip code I get $750 retail customer cash and $750 private offer for a total of $1500 off of the x-plan price.

Yeah, but I think what he means is if the delership has their own discount of say 3-5k, then it would still be cheaper to go that route. I don't think you can add on x-plan to the top of that?

It is a little confusing though as when I got my car under a-plan a couple years ago, I drove a couple hours to get it "on sale" which was about 2.5k off sticker, but I still ended up calling my family member to get the code, because it saved me another 700 or so in some kind of fees.

If the overall negotiated price is better than Xplan, then Xplan pricing becomes a moot point.

Work up the Xplan to be as complete as possible, print it, have the code and know your Xplan price as you plugged it online THEN go car shopping.

Don't mention Xplan at all - negotiate the deal on the car, if your dealing comes to a stand still and it's NOT lower then your Xplan number (that you know in your head), then reveal Xplan to Sales person. IF the negotiated price is BETTER than what your Xplan was, don't even mention Xplan, because you were able to beat it...

When shopping for any vehicle, watch out for:
Hidden fees (doc or other)
Additional "transport or destination fees"
Advertised price loaded with rebates to lower advertised price, whico not eveyrone can qualify
Inflated DMV doc fees (such as titling, tags, etc).
Shady Finance Dept of Dealer giving you bad interest rate because they are getting kickbacks from X-bank who is a partner who benefits from closed deals.

Also get pre-approved for a loan before going shopping, the dealer will try to point in the direction of their group of banks, if they offer a better rate then take it. I have never failed to get .25 to.5% lower than I have gotten myself from a local bank by being pre-approved.

Ive' special ordered 5 Mustangs and a Windstar over the years and have always got the dealer to agree to $100 over invoice ... this has ALWAYS been a better deal than X-Plan !!

When I ordered my 2016 a little over 2 weeks ago (Mustang #5), they offered it to me AT INVOICE before I had a chance to ask for $100 over ... once again, better deal than X-Plan.

Buying something off the lot with holding costs, well maybe X-Plan can be a better deal.

I was able to get 1% lower than my preapproved loan as well.

This is probably one of the best tactics when buying a new car. Dealerships WANT to make money on the financing when they can!

Unless it has changed since I bought my Mustang in 2015 it is printed right on the X Plan certificate that the doc fee is limited to $100.

I have bought 3 cars on X Plan and the $350 doc fee that is pre printed on the sales agreement has had to be crossed out and be changed to $100.
