I took my car in for tint. Was on the fence about getting the windshield done but was sold on the benefits. Long story short it was a disaster after 3 attempts it came out decent and then I see my dashboard. I don’t know if this was intentional or not but either way sucks and I’m trying to figure out how to replace this part. See the pics. It’s the defrost vent guard which seems to be in a tricky spot and I don’t know how to remove the damaged one? Any tips are appreciated.

UPDATE: Tint shop is refunding price of tint and install and covering the cost of replacing the damaged part at a Ford shop. Ford thinks they might have to pull the dash to replace this but I'm hoping it's just a snap off, snap on part.

Wait... did you do that, or a installer? Because if a business did that, i would be getting my money back and the cost of them fixing it, which would be the cost of the part, and having a ford dealer install it.

The tint business did it and that’s kind of what I was thinking but just want to know if I could easily do it myself to expedite the repair time.

How do you rash up someone's dash installing tint? At first I was like ok I see clouds. What are they talking about?.... and then whoa! Was the dude wearing a ring or a watch? I don't think you're going to have any problem pursuing a claim with these guys. That's really horrible. I'm sorry.

Seriously! The more I look at it I feel like it was intentional and it looks like was done with something as sharp as a razor.

If you attempt to fix the tint shops mistake, you will negate any liabitlity the shop may have and can claim YOU caused the scratches trying a DIY. Take back to shop, speak to manager or owner, have them make it right. Worst case, find out from dealer what it would cost to fix, replace dash, then let shop know you may sue them in Small Claims Court for cost of new dash plus Court Costs. That should get their attention, filing a claim in Small Claims Court is simple.

I got my windshield tinted about 2 weeks ago and the shop definitely didn’t scratch mine like that. As everyone else said I’d have them fix it out of their pocket.

That fact that you are even entertaining fixing that yourself is giving me a stroke. That is piss poor workmanship and the shop is 100% responsible. And whoever the monkey was that did that should be fired. That is freaking awful. 😡

Yeah it’s sad. I wanted this car since I was a teenager. Makes me want to learn how to do all of the mods myself so I don’t have to worry about clowns intentionally damaging my car. I wasn’t sure if I was being dramatic but the more and more I look I don’t see how something like that happens without knowledge of it happening. I have Borla exhaust in my trunk that I’m spooked to let a shop install now…. But I’m still going to get it installed 😂 (different shop)

Might be the handle of a razor or something, trying to fit it into the crevice at a weird angle.

Not cool.

Right. Still baffling. I’m in the s Florida and wonder what if this was a Lambo or something like that. Then what? It’s like if it was mishandling a tint tool, you still need a different job buddy. Hopefully I’ll get some resolve today.

Hahahah, imagine the shop trying to explain to their insurance that they need to cover the replacement of a Bentley dashboard with custom $3500 leather stitching.

I know some shops refuse to work on certain cars because the insurance wouldn't cover any damages caused to them. At my shop, I know we shelled out a lot for insurance to cover our classics.

I had a shop remove tint from my BMW a few years ago and they damaged my rear window defroster and a door panel. I felt badly but they had to replace the window and the door panel. That part of the dash, if available on its own must be replaced and if it cant, they need to ahve insurance for this type of damage. DO NOT do any of this on your own it will result in their liability being limited and you having to cover their damage.

Sorry to hear brother. I had same experience with a tint company. They re applied full tint including winshield 3 to 4 times. Finally I made them remove it so I could go somewhere else. I have a scratch on the A piller, and multiple scratches on the big panel by rear windshield. Also while it was there a giant gouge in the hood happened from them leaving it outside over night. Im sure we all have stories like this. Hard to find good help

That’s terrible! Sucks that some service people are so careless.
