So I get stopped by the police.

I was driving a little fast, but I did not think it was fast enough to be stopped. The officer was sitting in the safety gore between the left lane and the left hand turn lane. I stopped at the red light in the left lane about twenty feet ahead of his front bumper. When the light turned green, I saw him put his Explorer in gear and start moving forward.

He pulled into the lane behind me.

Ok, maybe he is going somewhere . . .

Nope. He turns on his red and blue lights.

I put on my turn signal, move over to the right, and make a right hand turn on the entrance to this industrial park to get us off the highway. I stop, roll down my window, and push the big red button to shut my car down.

He approaches and sniffs in, very loudly. I am sitting there with my driver's license in my hand looking confused. He sniffs again.

"Nope, wrong car," he said.

Now I am even more confused. He took my driver's license and explained that he smelled a strong odor of marijuana When I stopped at the stop light. I suppressed my laughter at this obvious falsehood and tried to keep quiet about it. He then explained that my window tint was too dark, and he thought I was younger, or he would not have stopped me.

Baffled, now, I just tried to maintain my composure, be polite, and not make any Smart Alec comments.

He then asked me to roll up my window part way, and put a tester on it, and measured the window at, he said, "Technically, technically illegal, 27%"

My state requires 32% with a tolerance of 3%.

"There is my PC!" he announced.

Groan.

Anyway, no ticket, but now I am concerned I have illegal window tint. I bought the car with the tint on it.

😠
Don't sweat it. Guy was was on a fishing expedition and trying to justify pulling you over. There's always gonna be a few dousche bag cops out there. I got darker tint than that on all my cars and never get hassled. Drive and enjoy.

“I have a low tolerance for dishonest cops, and an even lower tolerance for the multitude of officers and laws that we have in this country”

if you have a low tolerance for dishonest cops that’s all of them.
Here, dark tint is illegal, used to be like 35% at most not sure about now but every city and country cop car has limo tint on the windows. Bunch of hypocrites. Way too many of them hassling working people and proved it with your experience. I don’t understand all the “heroes” BS.

Maybe he was too smart to be a cop.

That is a real thing, and I can cite a case in MA where a cop was not hired on those grounds and it was appealed to civil service

Then there was the 1999 Federal case Robert Jordan v. City of New London

Read up on the Wonderlic Personnel Test and how it is used to weed out candidates that are to smart to be cops.

I know more than a few guys who left because they were too smart to be cops, and a couple who were dismissed on the last day of their probationary period because the brass didn't like that they had a brain. Every one of them went on to become very successful in their next profession.

Some people who were cops left because they did not agree with the jack booted thuggery and other crap that was going on in their departments.
from what i've seen, their equipment installers may be subject to the same limitations, at least on non-purpose built vehicles. i heard about an unmarked Mustang come in to a dealer saying one of the taillight bars would go out intermittently. sure enough, some idiot decided that the ideal place to pull power for something in the trunk was the power for the taillight bar that kept going out. ended up leaving without getting it fixed, and last time i saw it on the road, that bar was out still.

mind you, this specific bar being out actually made the vehicle non-compliant with the FMVSS, as that side no longer had a rear indicator that would light up immediately on activation, as it was the innermost bar. apparently, same vehicle came in a few months later with the question of how to disable the front lights at night when parked. on a black Mustang in an area with few street lights. prime road pirate!

I wasn't specifically referring to your case, just a general statement how I'd be concerned as a cop. I'm certainly not nervous about guns, I've owned many since I was 15. Not into hunting much now, but do enjoy shooting still.
The interesting thing is down here, we now have a lot more gun crime and more shootings by and of Police Officers since a certain female Prime Minister saw a chance bring in much tougher anti gun legislation after an Ozzie nutter shot up two mosques.
I have already strayed too far into political topics here, further than I intended, so I will refrain from stating what I think New Zealanders should have done back in 2019 in response to your government's violation of such a fundamental human right as self defense. Stating it clearly would also get me labelled as the forum extremist, so I'll just stop.

:surprised:

Fortunately, she cut and ran before she was booted out. Equally fortunately the new Govt has some strong supporters of shooting sports.
