From Motor Trend's article today about the Dark Horse

"Curiously, the Dark Horse's extra 14 ponies over the GT are unlocked via software rather than the kind of intake or exhaust changes that are typically used to squeeze more go out of naturally aspirated engines. With the new dual-throttle-body intake, apparently every fourth-generation Coyote engine has the hardware to make 500 horsepower. There are internal changes for the Dark Horse's engine, but they've been made to ensure the engine survives the Dark Horse driver's more aggressive driving."

I was actually debating making a post to see if anyone planned to dyno their car after break in. I ordered a DH with the 10-speed Auto, and I'm debating if I dyno or just wait until some aftermarket (looking at you, Whipple and Stteda) dyno a stock as a baseline. Anything in the 420-or-above ballpark, I'd be happy with, but I'm wondering if Ford sandbagged the ratings.

Wouldn’t doubt it. Although, disappointing if true. The trick is picking up the extra 15 without a tune.

Of course every S650 GT has the hardware to squeeze 14 HP and make 500HP. How safely can it be done tho?

Very safely, I have full confidence the gen 4 will be making 500 to the wheels with LTs, E85

Someone will put them on the Dyno back to back to find out soon enough. We will see if both are underrated (BMW) or overrated (typical Ford).

The only overrated Mustang I can remember was the 99 Cobra debacle. I know the S550 Gen 3 isn't underrated. My car made 419rwhp with only 2k miles on her with 93 octane. Now BMW is on another level. They rate the new BMW M2 at 453hp yet thats what its putting down at the wheels.

The last Ford power pack advertised gains of 19hp at 6500rpm and 42 lb/ft of torque at 2,000rpm

I don't see why they wouldn't release another one for this gen

Wouldn't be the first time. I could definitely see the GT matching the Dark Horse really easily (which imo makes the Dark Horse more of a let down)

So once my warranty is up, a little fuel/air ratio adjustment shouldn't be difficult.

Gen 3 yotes can make 900-1000 FI and survive fairly easy. 500 on a Gen 4 NA is NOTHING.

Easily

Reliable source tells me 425whp factory. Assuming a 15% DT loss, that would be 488hp. Pretty much the GT with active exhaust rated mark. There are always going to be happy dynos that fudge numbers and give people numbers they want, then they are sad at the track LOL

If they just marketed the DH as the GT track package it would be received differently, but probably wouldn't sell as well because it wouldn't sound as special

Longtubes, e85, tune would easily make over 500 crank. But the problem will be the locked ecu which will probably take a while to figure out.. although i dont mind because i want to take advantage of warranty lol

Nah, no probs with tuning they have the gen4 ecu out from F150s cracked

You’ll just have to send your ECU out to be able to flash it.
I’m talking 500 wheel also… it’s gonna already be 500 plus crank stock (GT)
