People have been spoiled by Covid car trade in values.Who thinks they buy a new car and sell it right away and believes it's gonna be the same price?
When you buy a new car, you lose X % of value right as you drive it off the lot, like a 50k car is 40k value after one year, then it depreciates slower over time.
How are people surprised by this?

Amen. People on this forum tend to have a hard time with reading comprehension. You'll get used to it after awhile. I personally cant wait for more Porsche comparisons...Listen up - most of you folks have been pretty decent but some have been super A$$es.
First and foremost, with the amount of cars I have purchased over my adult life let me make something perfectly CLEAR - I absolutely know about vehicle depreciation and do not and never have thought - that buying and selling cars is a smart way to make money as a private citizen (NOT OWNING A CAR LOT). I have been scalded many, many times with trade in or private sale depreciation.
With that said: This post was ABOUT the amount of that depreciation not that there was depreciation - so please for those few - LIGHTEN THE F UP ...![]()
The people on the Rennlist forum never have that problem.Amen. People on this forum tend to have a hard time with reading comprehension. You'll get used to it after awhile. I personally cant wait for more Porsche comparisons...![]()

Yeah… rumor on the street is new FED chair is gonna be a lot tighter with monetary policy, possibly make errors into economic slowdown/recession
I had to basically give my foxbody away last summer to sell it, liquidity is gonna be tight for the bottom 90% for awhile
Things can get much worse.
Only exception might be very high price, limited edition vehicles. A doc I knew waited years on for his spot to be able to buy a Ferrari. After that, he would buy one, drive it for about a year, then sell it used to other people who didn't want to wait to get an allocation for a new car. He typically made money with each resale. There is the old saying “you lose 10k as soon as you sign papers and drive it off the lot”
that’s the initial hit for buying a brand new vehicle, not just a DH, I would even venture to say, you can keep it and drive it for 2-3 more years and the value will be close to what you’re seeing now still, the dealer will want you to eat all the first 3 years depreciation up front because who in their right mind would buy a used 2025 when they can buy a new one.
