It is a speed LIMIT not a mandatory minimum! Getting wound up by other drivers achieves nothing. Live and let live.
I dare you to drive on I95, Taconic pky, I90, or any other major highway at the speed limit.

It is outright dangerous.

In much of the country, speed limits were last raised when drum brakes and bias-ply's were still common on a majority of cars. doing 55 on a three-lane wide highway is ridiculous. You're regularly doing 75+ just to maintain pace with everyone else.

You can get fined on highways (a ticket) in Europe (Italy for sure) for being in a left hand lane if you aren't passing anyone. They really need to implement that in the USA.
Here in Michigan, we have signs along most major interstates that explicitly instruct you to stay out of the left lane unless you're passing every few miles.

Unfortunately not many people have very good reading comprehension. I've had a couple of people try to argue with me when I wanted to pass on the right because they were hogging the left.

They do in many states.

In the USA, several states have “left lane only for passing” laws. There are 2 problems with their implementation.
1) Poorly thought out intersections requiring left turns. If charged, you can present a defense that you were about to make a left turn and traffic conditions required you to move left 1-2 miles before the turn. It sounds bogus at first, but not at 60+mph on a 4 lane divided hwy.

2) the “infraction” is only a few dozen bucks, whereas speeding is much more glamorous for your traffic enforcement buddies and in court.

You could change this behavior by making the left lane hog infraction significant- 4 digits and up and trivializing the low level speeding; get the revenuers OFF the side of the road with lidar and radar guns and IN traffic actually making a difference by “showing the flag” as it were.

As to the ACC: Just because you have ACC engaged, does not mean you’re at the car’s mercy for throttle and brake inputs!!!! I find that when the soup tightens up, you have high volume of traffic, you can set ACC, but if the gap is half a tractor trailer length or more, you will be cut of mercilessly by plodding tractor trailers that can’t maintain the speed LIMIT up hill and because people are now passing them on the right, you’re stuck.

You can leave ACC engaged, and simply throttle up to override the gap setting to keep anxious drivers from jumping into the gap because being in front of YOU MUST be faster than where they were previously... :-/ Never mind that there isn't a vehicle behind you for almost a mile, they will want to be in front of YOU.

No passing on the right is one of those laws that even the HiPo ignore when you have a hogger in the left. You cannot say that you are traveling at the same speed when people are passing you on the right and then ducking in front of you. the ACC will slow you down to maintain distance. It can be a vicious cycle. Traffic driving is not for the timid or inattentive. You cannot just react. You have to observe what is happening behind you and several cars ahead of you and be decisive. Speed limits are like ACC, they are based on various factors that do not include the prevailing human factor. Only a fool tries to fight the mindset of the traffic flow. Any flow interruption is going to result in chaos. Watch the traffic flow on a busy interstate where truck traffic is required to drive slower than the cars. Imagine only two lanes in each direction and one semi doing 65 wants to pass another doing 63, and the cars are doing 75. The passing semi takes forever to get back up to 65 and then pass the slower semi(s). During this time, the cars are stacking up like cord wood.

Yeah, I'm jealous, not even going to hide it.

Gonna be awhile before I own my own home
I don't know your circumstances, so this comment isn't directed at you.
But we scrimped and saved back "in the day". Eating out was a rare treat, no foreign holidays, all my wife's wages went to the mortgage. It was the same for everyone I knew.
And, having terrible taste in women back then, I had to do some of this twice more.
But my goal was to always own my own home, that's the key to a more comfortable old age.
So when I see how so many young people almost literally pee money away, I struggle to sympathise.

They do in many states.
Not here though, our cops are so speed obssesed they encourage slow drivers.
Only once in many years of driving did I see a cop U turn, leapfrog traffic and stop an a***hole who had 20 cars stacked up behind.
