S650 Mustang S650 Mustang INTERIOR First Look Spyshots! + More Exterior Shots s650-2023-mustang-ecoboost-interior-spyshot-35-

Just in!! We just got an excellent, detailed look inside the next-generation S650 Ford Mustang, suggesting a thoroughly modernized interior design that tones down the retro vibes found inside the current S550 Mustang.

Our spy shots actually reveal two views of this Mustang's dashboard: the real-world look at the prototype’s dash design, and a graphic representation of the new interior on the infotainment screen. From all the available evidence, it appears that the current Mustang’s retro, double-hump dashboard design is going away, in favor of a cleaner, streamlined design. The prototype’s interior screens are displaying a curious mix of English and Chinese characters, with metric units for the speedometer and HVAC controls, as the engineers continue to hone the interface for production use.

The Digital instrument panel is all-new, and flows directly into a generously-sized infotainment screen that sits atop the center stack. Beveled rectangular HVAC vents replace the current ’Stang’s round units, and they move to the middle of the center stack. A simple row of buttons sit below the vents, with the Start/Stop button, and the large Volume/Power Dial serving as bookends. The majority of functionality appears to be handled via the infotainment screen and steering wheel controls. It appears that the new Mustang accommodates both USB-A and USB-C inputs.

A chunky, flat-bottomed steering wheel looks like it will provide an inviting grip for the hands, while ample controls flank the right and left sides of the horn. Hints of the Mustang logo can be seen beneath the black tape covering the center of the wheel. This prototype is has an automatic transmission, and its gear selector looks like a carryover from the current Mustang.

We’ve supplied a wide variety of new exterior photos, capturing the next-gen Mustang in coupe and convertible form, with single and dual exhaust set-ups, and multiple wheel designs. More front-fascia details are starting to show through the camo, with hints at some of the front-fascia and lighting details. The Mustang emblem is even visible through the front camo on what appears to be a Mustang Convertible equipped with the High Output EcoBoost configuration.

I had coffee earlier. It didn't wake me up as much as this.

With that said, it's a clear evolution of the outgoing cabin. The only major departure is the placement of the HVAC vents, which I'm not totally a fan of (no pun intended). I may grow to like it overtime, but it's not a dealer breaker by any means. Thanks Jarstang.

oh boy looks they’re going to have start/stop tech in the car based on the button being on the dash. Gotta say I’m not looking forward to that, hopefully it’s an ecoboost feature and not for the v8. Imagine spending thousands on the perfect exhaust for your V8 just for the car to shut off at the light lol.

also I wonder what the star button is for.

And the volume knob looks awkward without the tune knob to balance it out. Not to mention it’s on the passenger side completely isolated.

Wow….. little too much European sports car vibe and not enough mustang if you ask me…. The double hump dash is as important to the mustang as the Tri Bar tail lights IMO.

That being said, looks like the entertainment system is the new android automotive based (sync 5?) system Ford announced awhile back.

Two additional points:

1. Not totally clear just yet that the double brow is gone. That part of the dash is still covered in these photos. I do agree, however, that I would be disappointed if its gone.

2. I hope the manual handbrake makes its way to production.

My assumption would be that the button means that feature could be turned off. Otherwise, no point in a button, right?

I have to say I’m not all that impressed so far. This car seems not very different in design or specs to the current models. You’d think with a new platform it’d get either bigger or smaller. Looks to me it’s exactly the same size. Also, the interior is okay, but losing some of the touches specific to Mustang- just kind of makes it somewhat boring so far. Admittedly, we haven’t seen the car undisguised in Production trim yet, but for what I’m assuming will be a cost increase over the current car and for an all new platform- it just doesn’t seem like a worthy effort. More like what was done with the Fusion before they used the excuse of poor sales to axe it entirely. That what happens when a car stays basically the same for 8 or 9 years in today’s market.

It likely functions like every other Ford in that it resets after every drive. You would have to press that button every time to get in the vehicle to disable auto start/stop.

Great scoop!
My initial thoughts are that the dash and elements are looking kind of generic. Obviously the tech will be much improved. Today's car, retro-themed or not, is distinctive and defines Mustang.

However, like anything else, time till tell if it grows, and we should all reserve final judgment when the final pics are released, and we have time to let it sink in.

The double-brow could simply not be installed on this prototype, as well. Also, the finishes on the parts (such as the dash bezel, airbag cover, etc.) do not look final yet.

I just want to add that I hope I’m wrong. Really. I love this car and have a passion for Mustangs. I just feel like this is the beginning of the end based on what’s been seen so far. I may change my mind, but that’s how I feel right now and I hate that I feel this way.
