RPM is noooo problem… you will run out of lift and duration far before RPM can even become a problem

rev limiters ARE a problem, they are violent on timing chains and tensioners as well as oil pump and crank sprocket gears

Your quarter miles were at the Whipple tuned rpm limit, right? They were the only tune in town until this August. What was the shift point at full throttle?

77-7800 … never hit a limiter though, not sure how high they have it raised

my friend has a GT500 and he LOOOVES holding it on the 2 step at lights … I cringe everytime like bro… cmon man…

Mine are 8k. I've never seen any evidence of the car making power at 7950+++ without aftermarket intake manifold/cam setup. We tried for weeks running probably 50 different VCT cam angles all the way to 8500 and no matter what we did, the engine didnt want to make power that high. 7350 was first, then we were able to make some changes and get peak at 7950 (at speed on the road), but past that airflow would drop off and it was diminishing returns.

Raising redline is more about safety for the engine… it’s better to float valves north of 8k then to hit the rev limiter for longevity.

i.e. the 7800 rpm rev limiter is harder on the engine than 8500rpm is

I wish the kids these days could understand that. My Dark Horse is a manual with a Whipple supercharger and I can race it without bouncing off the limiter. I'm in my 60's so that might have something to do with it. Had to learn back in the day how not to blow up an engine in the days before limiters.

This thread also reminds me of my first high reving car. The good old AE86 Corolla 1.6 litres winding to 7600, and now there's a 5 litre V8 in the garage that winds to.....7600 rpm.

I’m curious to what mine would pull to I have a 2025 GT with Kooks catless long tube header’s and full 3 inch Corsa double H and axle back with a 1320 ported intake manifold and it’s still factory tuned but gets to 7500 effortlessly?

LoL My first high revving car was a 1968 Cortina GT 4 speed.

Did you know that a Mk 4 Cortina 2 litre could do 180kmh?
It was an unmarked patrol car and we saw two of our guys running radar on the other side of the motorway. So we went a couple of kms up the road, turned and nailed it towards them. The doors of their car flew open so fast I thought they'd come off, the passenger jumped out and fell into a ditch. Then they recognised the car, and I could lip read multiple f**k you's being said. With a grin.
